Scientists of the Department of Biomedical Engineering of NURE, in particular associate professor Maksym Tymkovich and assistant Oleksii Trubitsyn, joined the webinar Rehabilitation robotics: Advancing physical therapy for improved health outcomes на базі нейромережі AI for Good Neural Network.
Leading scientists in the field of biomedical engineering and artificial intelligence from various universities (Stanford University, Western University, Harvard University, University of California, ETH Zurich) gathered to discuss the use of intelligent robotics for rehabilitation.
About 15% of the world’s population, or approximately 1 billion people, live with a disability. Rehabilitation jobs help people recover from physical disabilities caused by injury or illness, helping them regain mobility and carry out daily activities more easily. These robotic devices use artificial intelligence to guide and monitor patient movements and make accurate diagnoses, helping to tailor treatment plans to each patient’s unique needs, resulting in improved health and faster recovery. Robots help people overcome mobility challenges by improving their strength, coordination and endurance for a healthier and more independent life.
The webinar also addressed issues related to the implementation, cost-effectiveness and safety of rehabilitation robots.

In the conditions of distance learning in engineering specialties, it is very important to maintain the level of practical training of future specialists and provide visual demonstrations of the operation of real devices.
Thanks to the international cooperation of Professor Avrunin’s scientific group, the Department of Biomedical Engineering purchased an innovative tool for web conferences, AverMedia Dualcam PW313D Full HD, which allows simultaneous shooting from two different angles due to the presence of two different digital cameras. The combination of a regular wide-angle webcam and a dock camera captures the lecturer and any object, device or laboratory device next to him on the table or in front of the teacher in real working mode. Such a combined camera system can be used for online training and video conferencing and is placed on the screen of a computer monitor or laptop with the help of a universal mounting clip or on a separate tripod, which allows you to ensure the optimal installation angle and field of view for each camera.

Nose breathing testing device – a device for testing nasal breathing, the author’s development of scientists of Professor Avrunin’s school became the first international patent of the BMI department, which was indexed in the Scopus scientometric database.
The authors of the invention set the task of creating a device for testing nasal breathing based on the principle of posterior active transplantation, which allows measurement of breathing parameters in physiological mode during physical training.
The device passed metrological attestation and preliminary testing in the otorhinolaryngology department of the Kharkiv Regional Clinical Hospital. 76 patients with various forms of nasal breathing disorders and without disorders were examined. The use of this device allows you to objectively assess the aerodynamic properties of the nasal cavity and increase the effectiveness of diagnosing diseases of the upper respiratory tract.
