FORUM “WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP IN STEM COMPANIES»

On March 29, 2019 in Kyiv, the STEM COALITION Social Union held the Women’s Leadership in STEM Companies Forum and awarded technology companies and universities for women’s development and support practices. The event was organized under the project “Technology Covenant for the Development of Women in STEM Companies” with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine. The IT-integrator (certificate “The Best Company for Women”, level B), Zhytomyr State Technological University (“Best University for Women”, level A), Vinnytsia National Technical University, Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics and Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts were awarded.  (level B).


At the opening of the Forum, Mikey Van Coldman, Deputy Head of Mission to the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine, said: “Conducting projects to support women’s leadership demonstrate an impact not only on the development of the country’s economy, but also on society as women are more sincere, more enthusiastic in them  to make useful and important things for society “.  Deputy Minister of Social Policy Natalia Fedorovich noted that the Ministry always supports initiatives on equality of rights and women’s leadership in the country and programs for the expansion of economic opportunities and women’s rights.

On may 15, Valerii Semenets, Rector of the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, was the guest of the program “Person” on the TV channel “R1”. The Professor told viewers about the program “Education without limits”.

Rector of NURE told about the joint program “Education without limits” with the National University “Lviv Polytechnic” and the Ukrainian research Institute of prosthetics, prosthetic constructon and rehabilitation (Ukrniiprotezirovaniya), which will provide free access to quality education for all students, including students with disabilities.

The center for rehabilitation and inclusive education of persons with special educational needs, which is equipped with devices that are obtained within the framework of international projects DAAD and Erasmus+, was opened at the Department of Biomedical Engineering in NURE. This equipment includes special certified by the International Association of visually impaired persons Low Vision International Asssotiation mobile devices Magnilink ZIP (Sweden), have high-quality digital cameras with adjustable magnification from 10 to 40 times with a large depth of field and allow to obtain digital images on 19 inch high-resolution monitors (Full HD) with adjustable optical magnification parameters and light filters, which is especially important for students with different types of visual impairment. Two-coordinate desktops of these systems allow not only to promote information from books or notebooks, but also to perform small work, which is associated with the use of fine motor skills in the tasks of collecting circuit boards, soldering and other types of installation work. Also available are individual hearing enhancers Vital Maxx (Germany) for students with hearing impairments. This, together with the information environment, makes it possible to transfer the educational process to the European level with the provision of equal opportunities for access to educational resources of persons with special educational needs.

On June 26 and 27, 2019, the 1st International Scientific and Practical Conference «Theoretical and Applied Aspects of Device Development on Microcontrollers and FPGAs» MC & FPGA-2019 was held.

The conference was attended by Professor of the Higher School of Engineering ENSIL-ENSCI of the University of Limoges (France) Vahid Meghdadi, speakers and all those interested in the subject of the conference. The conference was opened by the head of the MTS department, associate professor Iryna Svyd and the associate professor of the MTS department Alexander Vorgul.

On May 30, 2019, the guest of the program “Viddzerkalennia” was Dmitry Yuriyovych Uzlov, Head of the Department of Information and Analytical Support of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, Associate Professor of the Department of Artificial Intelligence of NURE.

In an interview with D.Yu. Uzlov described the joint scientific research of the Department of Artificial Intelligence of NURE and the Main Directorate of National Police in the Kharkiv region within the framework of an agreement on scientific and technical cooperation in the direction of: data mining on the basis of modern neurophase technology of computing intelligence, intellectual technologies in law enforcement activities.

On March 27, 2019 there was a press conference of representatives of Grigoriev Institute for Medical Radiology NAMS of Ukraine. The participants of the press-conference talked about the commissioning of the brachytherapy complex with the high dose rate source of radiation. This device is unique due to the highly active miniature radiation source of 3 mm in length and 1 mm in diameter. It allows irradiation of tumors of inaccessible localizations that can’t be treated by other methods. The complex includes modern radiation treatment planning techniques and the INVIVO dosimetry system for precise dose control. The only one SagiPlan planning system in Ukraine as well as the positioning system “Civco EX3” allows an accurate delivery of the calculated dose for brachytherapy of prostate cancer and pancreatic cancer as an independent method of therapy which is new direction for our country.

The Innovation Science Park Synergy began its work.  The solemn opening took place on April 9, 2019, with the participation of the head of KHODA Y.O. Svitlychna, Director General of the Directorate of Science, MES D.V. Cheberkuss, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Aslanyan. Kharkiv Regional State Administration acted as a synergistic partner, joining the efforts of scientists, educators and active business.  The project’s investor became the Creative Technologies company.  Due to this project students of KNURE have the opportunity to master practical knowledge on modern equipment under the guidance of qualified IT specialists.
At an area of about 1,500 square meters there are lecture rooms, classes equipped with Apple computer technology, coworking, Robotics Robotics Laboratory, virtual reality and 3D modeling, block room, cinema for visualization of developments, conference hall, cafe, even a sports area.  Synergy became the first science park in Ukraine, which joined the International Association of Science Parks IASP, and now represents our country on an international level.
The park where IT specialists, students and teachers of the university will not only learn, but also work, was created thanks to the joint efforts of investors, the management of Kharkov National University of Radio Electronics and HOGA. During the opening of the science park, the head of the region, Yulia Svetlichnaya, thanked everyone who took part in the implementation of this ambitious project.
“I think that no one doubts that Kharkiv is the scientific and educational capital of Ukraine. We have always been proud of our base and achievements, our history.  But we need to stimulate both scientists and, of course, our young people. Such spaces – almost 1500 square meters – fully equipped with modern technology, with the introduction of new technologies and new ideas, reveal new opportunities for our students. They are very relevant, because creative ideas and innovations are the future of our state, the path to developing the economy and improving Ukraine’s competitiveness on the world market” – said Yulia Svetlichnaya.
“I am impressed by the fact that recently bright and modern projects are being implemented in Kharkov, which give young people the opportunity to find themselves and open new projects” – Yulia Svetlichnaya noted.
KNURE Rector Valery Semenets reported that over the last 2 years the university has received 20 new laboratories. “They are equipped at the expense of firms operating in the KNURE market. There are 29 such firms today, too, the thirtieth firm is opening a science park here,” he said.
“Synergy” is the first science park in Ukraine, which joined the International Association of Science Parks – IASP (just recently we were confirmed membership). Therefore, we represent Ukraine on the international market”, said the director of the Synergy Science Park, Vadim Khachatryan.
A total of 20 classrooms equipped with modern technology (iMac audience, Windows audience; auditoriums with interactive tables and virtual reality helmets, etc.), a multimedia laboratory, virtual reality laboratories and robotics, the hub of inventors.  There is also a modern cinema for visualization of developments, a conference room, a cafe, a sports game area.

The open discussion “Higher education: social service or driver of economic growth?” took place on the basis of “Nakipelo” media project on 20 March 2019. In this discussion Kharkiv national university of radio electronics representatives: Andrii Danylov (Senior Lecturer of Social informatics department NURE, member of the Academic council of the university, Сhairman of the Council of young scientists), Vitaliy Tkachov (Senior Lecturer of electronic computers department, Candidate of Technical Sciences, member of NURE graduates Association, Vice-chairman of the Council of young scientists) and Nikita Zdorik (first deputy of chief of NURE Student Senate) took part. The discussion took place with support and on the initiative of “RE-Start” Сivil society organization which work is directed to implementation of the principles of sustainable development in Ukraine.

The discussion was devoted to questions of the organization and implementation of educational and scientific activity and devoted to its integration with business for ensuring sustainable development of Ukraine.

In January 2019, the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics signed the Protocol on Cooperation with the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES) https://www.ifes.org.  In the framework of partnership for the sake of sustainable development, KNURE will take part in the development of programs that are an integral part of the interactive IFES Civil Education course “Democracy: From Theory to Practice”.

On February 16-19, 2019 a group of teachers of the University passed the first training on methodology of teaching civic education.  As a result of the training, they will present an interactive course “Democracy: from theory to practice” that will last for one semester.  The training was organized by IFES in order to prepare participants for the teaching of the Civil Education course “Democracy: From Theory to Practice”. The course on civic education was developed by IFES and will be implemented in the 2019-2020 academic year. This event was made possible thanks to the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ministry of International Affairs of Canada and British assistance from the Government of the United Kingdom.

This week in Kharkiv starts the third season of the largest in Ukraine school of social design and grant-making “Open Grants School”, organized by the Department of innovative development and image projects of the Kharkiv city Council.
The aim of the project is the social integration within the concept of sustainable development,
development of competence and skills of representatives of public organizations willing and able to initiate and implement social innovation projects in various spheres of life in Kharkiv.
 This year the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics – a leader in international activities among the universities of Ukraine became the main partner of Open Grants School. NURE has 94 active international agreements.
It is on the basis of the new modern classrooms that theoretical and practical classes, training sessions and master classes of the School will be held.
As Professor Semenets noted during the press conference, such an initiative will be useful for scientists of NURE who will also have the opportunity to learn how to prepare project applications for financing their projects within the framework of the concept of sustainable development.
