From October 25-26, 2022, scientists from V.V. Popovskyy ICE Department, PhD Yeremenko O.S. and Mersni A., participated in the annual seminar “Women in Research and Education in Computer Science” – WIRE-EUGAIN Workshop, held during the 18th European Computer Science Summit – ECSS 2022.

The main theme of the ECSS was “Workforce for digital transformation”. The conference was organized by the University of Hamburg together with GI – Gesellschaft für Informatik and SICP – Software Innovation Campus Paderborn. The annual European Informatics Summit is the only place where informatics/computer science leaders and decision makers in Europe gather to discuss strategic topics and trends related to research, education and policy.

Since the beginning of the war, the Twinning Initiative has brought together more than 80 British and Ukrainian universities. Now this network will be expanded to include German universities. For example, the Department of BME at the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics continues its fruitful cooperation with the Leibniz University, Hannover. W. Leibniz University, Hannover, Germany. The result was the submission of a joint application for funding from the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD for the project “Ukraine digital: Ensuring academic success in times of crisis (2022).

The project is coordinated by Professor Oleg Avrunin and involves two master’s students and two postgraduate students of the Department of BME. Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine is having a devastating effect on Ukrainian education and science. The goal of the program is to support Ukrainian higher education institutions in the development and implementation of their digital courses with the support of partners from Germany. As a result, Ukrainian education applicants and scientists will have the prospect of continuing their studies and academic careers despite the war. A total of 73 projects will be funded this year, including 3 projects with the participation of NURE.

The continuation of long-term cooperation between Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics and the Ukrainian Research Institute of Prosthetics, Prosthetics and Rehabilitation in the field of medical and technical problems of rehabilitation and social adaptation of persons with disabilities was the publication of the first two textbooks: “Production technologies and materials” by authors A.D. Saleyeva, I.L. Solntsev, L.O. Belevtsova, T.V. Nosova, Semenets V.V. and “Design and technology of manufacturing orthoses for the spine” by Saleyeva A.D., Avrunin O.G., Petrov V.G., Nosova T.V., Baev P.O., Pivovarov V.V., Karpenko I.V., Korneev S.V.

The first textbook describes the materials used in the manufacture of prostheses and orthoses, outlines the basic technologies for the manufacture of prostheses and orthoses of the upper and lower extremities, as well as orthoses for the spine, and provides components for these devices.

Despite difficult times in the country, the team of the department continues to successfully carry out its tasks, one of the components of which is international cooperation.

Thus, last week the main office of the world famous company ISACA (Chicago, USA) confirmed and prolonged the status of ISACA Student Group of NURE, created and functioning on the basis of the V.V. Popovskyy Department of Infocommunication Engineering since 2016. At present the president of ISACA Student Group is a student of group КУИБ-19-1 Yevsiukova O., who studies on the profile of the department.

The Ninth ACM Celebration of Women in Computing: womENcourage™ 2022 was held from September 21 to 23, 2022, with the support of ACM-W Europe. The 2022 conference was organized in Larnaca, Cyprus, at the University of Central Lancashire, UCLan CYPRUS).

WomENcourage celebrations are open to participants of any gender, but are mainly dedicated to women who associate their educational and professional activities with computer technology. WomENcourage has been held since 2014 and was initiated by ACM-W Europe, and the main goal is to bring women together in different technical professions and disciplines and to encourage them to pursue education and careers in computing and information technology. The theme of the 2022 conference is Drawing New Lines in Science. This year’s ACM womENcourage 2022 notes that both art and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) have a common focus on creative thinking, problem solving, and experimental, deep learning. The connection of the arts to STEM, often referred to as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), is noted.

The students of two educational levels of BME Department listened to a lecture “Prosthetics of functions of human organs in modern medicine” given by Vitaliy Balyak, medical anesthesiologist, Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of Kiev City Hospital No. 10 (City Center of Surgery of Liver, Bile Ducts and Pancreas). Zemskov), assistant of the Department of General Surgery No.1 of O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University as part of non-formal/informal education.

The anesthesiologist reported on the types and devices for replacement of lost human functions: artificial lung ventilation, hemodialysis, albumin dialysis, varieties of ECMO, blood purification and oxygenation systems, extracorporeal liver systems, etc.

On 21-22 September, 2022 the Annual Scientific and Practical Conference of the Ukrainian Society of Radiation Oncologists with the participation of international experts “Topical Issues of Radiation Oncology in Ukraine” was held in Lviv, organized by the Ukrainian Society of Radiation Oncologists, National Cancer Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the State Institution “The Institute of Medical Radiology and Oncology named after S.P. Grigoriev of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (IMRO), the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the State Institution “Oncology in Ukraine. S.P. Grigoriev NAMS of Ukraine (IMRO), Ministry of Health of Ukraine, UDIN IZOTOP State Enterprise, Ukrainian Society of Nuclear Medicine Specialists, P.L. Shupyk National University of Public Health of Ukraine, Lviv Regional State Administration Main Health Department, Lviv Regional Oncology Diagnostic and Treatment Center CNP LRC.

The main program issues were: radiotherapy diagnosis in oncology, technical re-equipment of radio-oncology institutions in Ukraine, the use of modern innovative radiotherapy technology, quality assurance of radiation oncology, radiobiology expertise and radiobiological support of radiotherapy. L. Averyanova, associate professor of Department of BME, made a report “State and problems of functioning of radiotherapy service of Ukraine in military conditions”, presenting the results of joint work with leading specialists of IMRO, which is the profile scientific and educational base of Department of BME. L. Averyanova was the only attendee from the entire Kharkiv region. The report highlighted the urgent problems of technical re-equipment of radiotherapy centers in Ukraine, the peculiarities of organizing their work under martial law, based on the IMRO experience.

The Department of Electronic Computers of NURE held a meeting with applicants to promote non-formal and informal education. The main opportunities for applicants were presented, taking into account the specifics of modern IT companies and partners of the department, as well as the peculiarities of the process and benefits for applicants were discussed in detail.

Non-formal education – is an education that is usually obtained through educational programs and does not provide for the award of state-recognized educational qualifications by level of education, but may result in the award of professional and/or partial educational qualifications. It helps to obtain the necessary knowledge quickly and in a timely manner in accordance with the needs of the here and now.

From 07/25/2022 to 08/21/2022, the head of the Microprocessor Technologies and Systems Department, Iryna Svyd, attended the “Google Digital Tools for Education” course. Training on the course includes three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced. As part of the course, digital competence was acquired regarding the use of Google digital tools in professional activities, the advantages of Google Workspace for Education were worked out, the organization of the personal information environment of the teacher of the educational institution was worked out and the use of digital tools for the organization of effective interaction of participants in the educational process (including for remote teaching).

The course was initiated by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine with the support of Google Ukraine, in order to expand the possibilities of using digital tools for the organization of distance learning and increase the efficiency of the educational process, organizes free training within the framework of the “Google Digital Tools for Education” program, which will be carried out during 2022 /2023 academic year. The basic training platform of the training course is the subject of professional development – the Academy of Digital Development.

In June 2022 a project was supported by the DAAD program “Ukraine Digital”, which involved teachers and students of several universities: from Germany – University of Hannover named after Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz), from Ukraine – Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University; Kharkov National University of Radio Electronics; Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology (Dnipro).

The project is aimed at combining competencies and support of Ukrainian partner universities of the Hannover University named after Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz in Kiev, Dnipro and Kharkiv.
The main goals of the project are to further develop and digitize the current set of courses in times of crisis, giving a perspective to faculty and students both those who have been forced to leave and those who remain in Ukraine. The project is aimed at creating and adapting training video content for the Ukrainian audience, which is necessary in terms of distance learning.
As part of the project the first workshop was held, which addressed the Creative Commons licensing system, integration of works of other authors in their own open educational resources (OER), licensing of audio/video media, open technical standards for audiovisual media, publishing video with an open license on the TIB AV-порталі.
Prof. Oleg Avrunin, senior lecturer Maxim Timkovich, students Olga Isaeva and Sofia Khudaeva took part in the event from the Department of BME.
Development of this direction will be implemented in conjunction with the Department of Computer Science (Department of Computer Engineering NURE) of the project in the framework of the international program DAAD Ostpartnerschaften “Virtual Cryomicroscopy”, whose idea was launched two years ago at the Department of BME to create a virtual environment full cycle and graduate students to interact with the laboratory equipment in a remote mode.

Professor Oleg Avrunin participated in the working meeting of coordinators of the international project Open Education Resources with Ukraine (OER with Ukraine). The project is implemented within the DAAD program “Ukraine digital: Ensuring academic success in times of crisis (2022)” and unites four universities:
– from Germany: the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hannover;
– from Ukraine: the Kiev National Taras Shevchenko University, the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology (Dnipro).

The project is aimed at combining competencies and support of Ukrainian partner universities of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hannover in Kiev, Dnipro and Kharkiv.
