NURE JOINED THE DAAD PROGRAMME “UKRAINE DIGITAL: ENSURING ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN TIMES OF CRISIS”

Since May 2022, the Department of MST of the Faculty of Computer Science of NURE has joined the programme with the German University of Applied Sciences in Heilbronn “Ukraine digital: Ensuring academic success in times of crisis (2022) – Ukraine digital: Ensuring academic success in times of crisis”. This programme is funded by DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service. The university joined this project together with the Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv and the Vadym Hetman Kyiv Economic University.

The project includes language courses for students and teachers – English and German (A2, B2); online courses for Ukrainian students; support for NURE teachers; development of digital learning competencies for teachers of Ukrainian universities; master classes for NURE students, postgraduates and teachers. The Department of MST discusses with representatives of the German university the issue of future cooperation between teachers of partner universities and teachers of HHN COIL or Virtual Exchange projects, actively participates in joint COIL/VE projects to expand cooperation between universities.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine 659/2021, Professor of the Department of BME, Doctor of Technical Sciences Iryna Hennadiiivna Perova was awarded the President of Ukraine Prize for Young Scientists in 2021 for the work “Hybrid neuro-phasic systems for the tasks of intellectual analysis of medical data flows”.

On May 12, 2022, the scientists of the department traditionally took part in the III International Scientific and Practical Conference “Aviation, Industry, Society” (registration certificate of UkrINTEI No. 744 of 17.09.2021), which was organized on the basis of Kremenchuk Flight College of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. The conference was attended by leading scientists, specialists, graduate students, applicants for higher education from more than 50 higher education institutions of Ukraine and foreign countries. The Department presented several reports on various aspects of biomedical engineering.

At the plenary session of the conference, Professor Oleg Avrunin presented a report from his research group on the research of postgraduate student Andriy Sokolov “Prospects for the development of a spatial orientation system for blind people”.

In response to the war in Ukraine, the American Council on International Education, with the financial support of the US Government, has launched a Humanitarian Support Fund for Ukrainian universities participating in the Academic IQ Initiative. Such support is appropriate and relevant for universities that continue the educational process in a martial law.Head of the department. MTS Svyd I, as a project participant, took an active part in receiving grant support from the Academic IQ Project. As part of this project, KNURE received RITAR RT-10KS-LCD and RITAR E-RTM1500L UPS equipment to ensure the smooth operation of critical infrastructure and server systems of the university, which will ensure the stability of remote work of teachers and staff.
KNURE remains in Kharkiv and continues the educational process. Support and assistance from partners at this time is extremely important. We thank the team of the Academic IQ Project for timely and necessary assistance in ensuring the educational process at the university.

Under martial law, the Institute of Medical Radiology and Oncology does not stop its work and conducts examinations and treatment of cancer patients who are unable to leave the city of Kharkiv. During this period, 53 patients have already received chemotherapy, the linear accelerator has started working again, thanks to the graduates of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, surgical interventions have been planned, MRI and CT have been established by the efforts of the staff of the private center Brigid on the territory of the clinic. The clinic also established its own laboratory with the private laboratory Alvis-Class, since violation of the terms of treatment of cancer patients will inevitably lead to cancer progression.

From 13 September 2021 to 11 January 2022, Professors of V.V. Popovskyy ICE Department Yevdokymenko M. and Radivilova T. were trained by USAID from CTO peer mentoring program 2021 under the USAID project “Cybersecurity of Critical Infrastructure in Ukraine”. The aim of the mentoring program was to improve preparedness of the country for cyberthreats, the ability to build strong defences around critical infrastructure in Ukraine and to deepen cybersecurity knowledge and skills, namely incident response, risk management and building defence processes in organisations.
Sincere appreciation to the organisers of this program, namely Catalisto, DAI Global LLC and the USAID Ukraine Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity Project.

The STEM Girls branch, established at the MTS Department, joined the online conference “Ukrainian Women in Science that Applauds the World” on February 11 from the STEM Girls initiative and L’Oreal Ukraine. The event is timed to the International Day of Girls and Women in Science and is designed to interest schoolgirls and students to pay more attention to the subjects of the natural cycle and further development in the scientific field. During the broadcast, the finalist scientists of the 4th season of the Ukrainian L’Oréal-UNESCO Award “For Women in Science” spoke about their path to recognition of what they are currently working on and how to integrate science into their lives.

Among the invited scientists:

Professor of the Department of BMI, Ekaterina Muzyka, became an invited speaker in an interactive online meeting dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, organized by the Center for Gender Culture, which was held in partnership with the Department of Science and Education of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration.

Talking about her journey from a student of the Novovolynsk Electromechanical College to a professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Top University of Ukraine – NURE, Muzyka Ekaterina sought to dispel the fear among the audience of schoolgirls, future applicants, about gender stereotypes about the participation of women in the exact sciences.

Since 2016, by the decision of the UN, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated on February 11.
According to the UN General Assembly resolution “Science, Technology and Innovation for Development”, equal access of women and girls of all ages to the achievements and development of science, technology and innovation is the key to gender equality in this area.

Ukraine belongs to countries with a high level of women’s participation in research and development. According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, 45% of scientists in Ukraine are women. Our country ranks 12th in the number of women scientists among 41 countries of the world.

February 2 and 4 at 12:00 in the gym NURE were held open classes in health practices: gymnastics HADU and yoga for the spine and joints.
Free training sessions for all comers were held by teachers of the Department of Physical Education and Sports.
The event was held under the slogan: “Doctors treat diseases, and health should be obtained by regular exercise, his strength and patience” (Nikolai Amosov).
Various wellness practices at NURE aimed at achieving general health and well-being are especially relevant during a pandemic.
