On December 6, the German-Ukrainian workshop “German-Ukrainian Collaboration Workshop 2023” was held, organized on the basis of the University named after H.V. Leibniz (Hanover, Germany), which was attended by scientists from Ukrainian universities: Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics and Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology (Dnipro), as well as from the Institute of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Scientists from Spain, France and Colombia were also presented at the workshop. Scientists from the Department of Biomedical Engineering participated from NURE – the head of the department, professor Oleg Avrunin, associate professors Maksym Timkovich and Karina Selivanova, and graduate student Andriy Sokolov. The organizer was Professor Birgit Glasmacher (Prof. Prof. h.c. Dr.-Ing Birgit Glasmacher, M.Sc.), director of the Institute of Multiphase Processes (IMP) of the University named after G.V. Leibniz (LUH) and the moderator is graduate student Oleksandra Hubenia (Ph.D Student, M.Sc. Oleksandra Hubenia).

The purpose of the workshop was to strengthen international relations between universities of Ukraine and Germany, as well as to discuss new international projects and current scientific directions. Workshop program..

The head of the BMI department, Professor Oleg Avrunin, reported on the results obtained thanks to long-term cooperation and partnership within the framework of international scientific projects between NURE and LUH, as well as on new scientific directions that will be launched in 2024-2025. The professor talked about a number of joint scientific and educational projects that were implemented between the department of the BMI NURE and the IMR of the University of H.V.Leibniz for the past 14 years under various partnership programs, including DAAD, Erasmus+ and BMBF. Particular attention was paid to the results of the research project of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine and BMBF of Germany, which is aimed at the study of life-size models of the upper respiratory tract, which were created using modern 3D printing technologies.

Maxim Tymkovich, associate professor of the BMI department, delivered a report “Development of Virtual Cryo-Lab: Challenges, Successes, Future Avenues” dedicated to the experience of developing a virtual cryo-lab in cooperation with the Institute of Multiphase Processes. The main stages of creation, functionality, features of development and further prospects were considered.

Karina Selivanova, an associate professor of the BMI department, reported on modern video technologies for creating open educational resources and educational interactives, and also demonstrated the department’s modern medical equipment, which is used for training, separately for video and content creation. The author’s media projects of the department and thematic issues, where active teachers and students participate, were presented, which greatly interested scientists and colleagues from other universities to gain similar experience, which is important in the conditions of distance education during the martial law in Ukraine.

Andriy Sokolov, a graduate student of the BMI department, reported on his experience of video editing lectures for open educational resources, creating illustrations and subtitles in two languages, technical aspects of video editing.Participation in such events contributes to the strengthening of international cooperation between Ukraine and Germany in the framework of the implementation of international projects, and also opens up opportunities for the creation of new scientific directions and research, as well as educational activities.

International cooperation in the field of biomedical technologies with institutions of different profiles contributes to the development of partnerships for sustainable development, quality education, as well as good health and well-being within the framework of achieving the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
