Despite all the difficulties of our time, the military aggression of the Russian Federation and the destruction caused by it, our university continues to fight for the preservation of the environment, the minimization of the use of natural resources, and the environmentalization of educational and other processes.
Employees of the university archive actively participate in this (archive manager T.L. Zapisova, employees N.M. Danilenko, V.A. Ratii, M.N. Wolfson), who are attentive to the world around them, protect the nature of their native country and global resources. They include both materials (paper, folders, files, etc.) and energy. Even after the damage caused by the rocket strike on 02.01.2024, our department did not use heating devices, saved with the help of additional plastic curtains on the border of the windows, mounting foam in the gaps, etc.
The most important thing in saving resources is limiting the use of non-renewable materials (in particular, wood, paper, cardboard, etc.). For this purpose, we actively apply the use of “returns” (previously already on one side of used sheets of paper) for drafts and internal documentation, we even make bookmarks with our own hands from completely used sheets. “Recycling” also includes measures for the multiple use of files, folders, and paper clips. Thanks to the constant attention of the employees, it was possible to extend the period of use of replaceable printer cartridges (V.A. Ratii), binding of stacks of documents / folders (N.M. Danilenko). A campaign is underway for the widest possible use of electronic document circulation (head of the archive T.L. Zapisova and all employees of the archive). The archive, together with other units of the university, participated in the “Batteries, surrender” campaign, which was started in 2020 at the initiative of the trade union committee and the Student Senate of the NURE. On November 16, 2023, more than 95 kg of used batteries (packed in 5- and 6-liter plastic bottles, boxes, etc.) were taken to the Kharkiv recycling center. This event was scheduled for February 25, 2022! Action “Batteries, surrender!” continues even now (executor Wolfson M.N., k. 232). More than 5 kg of batteries, accumulators from mobile phones and similar property have already been collected, which become ecologically dangerous junk in case of disposal, but are a source of valuable raw materials during recycling.
Together with other divisions and departments of the University, the archive participates in the collection of waste paper. Any unusable sheets of paper, cardboard and other materials after appropriate treatment are packed for further removal to a processing plant, thanks to which the archive has become a center for working with renewable materials. There are plans to extend this to plastic. We have already joined the action of collecting lids from plastic containers and empty plastic bottles, we appeal to everyone to take part in the action of separate disposal of garbage: the container for empty plastic containers is located near the garbage bunker opposite the gate of the corporate yard “І”.
No obstacles, difficulties, even the terrible time of war did not stop our determination to continue activities aimed at preserving resources, saving the nature of Ukraine and the planet as a whole.
