History of the Faculty of ITM

The history of the ITM Faculty dates back to the second half of the 20th century. In 1962, the Kharkiv Mining Institute became the Kharkiv Institute of Mining Engineering, Automation and Computing (or Computer Engineering). There were 3 faculties of the KhIGMAVT: Automation of Production Processes in the Mining Industry, Radio Engineering, Mining Engineering.

In 1963, the Faculty of Computer Engineering was established at the institute with two specialties, as: Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. The Department of Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Physics was created especially for the students of the new faculty, that was later transformed into the still existing Department of Applied Mathematics. The department did not graduate its own specialists and functioned as a general education department with the aim of improving the mathematical training of students of the Computer Engineering Faculty.

The Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Management was founded in July 1995 in accordance with the KhDTURE order dated 12.07.1995 No. 67 and was separated from the Computer Engineering Faculty due to the need to increase the number of specialists and expand the specialties range in the areas of “Applied Mathematics” and “Information systems in management’.

Since 1995, the Faculty has included the departments of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, Economics and Management.

The Department of Higher Mathematics joined the Faculty in 2001, and the Department of Social Informatics joined the faculty in 2003.

According to the KhNURE order dated 05.12.2016 No. 700, the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Management was renamed to the Faculty of Information and Analytical Technologies and Management.

Today, the Faculty consists of 4 departments: the Department of Applied Mathematics, Department of Informatics, Department of Economic Cybernetics and Economic Security Management, and Department of Higher Mathematics.

From the moment the Faculty was created until 2006, Leonid Yosypovych Shklyarov, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics, was its dean. Since October 2006, the Faculty has been headed by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Oleksiiovych Doroshenko.
