The Department of Computer Modeling and Intelligent Technologies (CMIT) is a graduate department of the Faculty of Computer Science, was established on February 6, 2026, on the basis of the Department of Systems Engineering.
The history of the Department of Systems Engineering is marked by significant achievements in the field of education and science. The department was established in 1967 as the Department of Theoretical Cybernetics by Prof. Kuzmin I.V., and in 1975 was renamed the Department of Systems Engineering.
Over more than half a century of its work, the Department of Systems Engineering has trained more than two thousand IT specialists and more than 60 candidates and doctors of sciences – highly qualified personnel, many of whom are employees of the department, teachers at other universities or hold leading positions in industry and business.
The CMIT Department trains specialists of three educational levels in the specialty F3 Computer Science (122 Computer Science).
Bachelors:
Educational program “Computer Science and Technology”.
Admission based on complete general secondary education and on the basis of a junior bachelor’s degree or higher (study according to a three-year program).
Masters:
Educational and professional program “Information Technology Design“ and educational and scientific program “System Design”.
Doctors of Philosophy: in the specialty F3 Computer Science (122 Computer Science).
In addition to mandatory disciplines, the department offers various disciplines of the elective part of educational programs, which allows applicants to build individual educational trajectories based on their preferences.
In separate groups of bachelors formed according to the results of the selection, a significant part of the disciplines of the curriculum for the OPP “Computer Science and Technology” is taught in English.
Thanks to the partnership with the Kharkiv IT Cluster, IT companies are the base of students’ practice, and IT specialists are involved in conducting individual classes. Higher education students have the opportunity to participate in workshops and trainings from IT companies free of charge in order to improve their professional level and prepare for work in their specialty.
The CMIT department, using the resources of the department’s educational and scientific laboratories, implements international projects under the Erasmus+, Cost, DAAD programs.
The CMIT department has a branch in the PrJSC “Institute of Automated Systems” (IAS), which is a scientific and production base for practical classes for students. The branch is headed by the general director of the IAS, Ph.D. D. B. Kolesnyk.
The following laboratories have been created and are operating at the department:
- Scientific laboratory “Center for Informatization of Government Bodies”.
- Educational and scientific laboratory “Systems Modeling”.
- Educational and scientific laboratory “System Design”.
- Educational and scientific laboratory “Decision-making based on big data in organizational systems”.
- Educational and Scientific Laboratory of Digital Technologies.
Doctoral studies in the specialty F3 Computer Science.
Scientific directions of the department:
- System analysis, modeling and optimization of complex organizational and technical systems.
- Mathematical models and methods of structural and topological optimization of distributed objects.
- Mathematical modeling and solving combinatorial optimization problems in geometric design and transport routing.
- Development of computational methods and software for computer vision, automatic detection of moving objects in a video stream, in particular, asteroids, comets, variable stars, satellites, drones.
- Intelligent analysis of medical data for medical diagnostics and modeling of biological processes.
