Problem research laboratory for radio monitoring and processing of radio information

The Problem research laboratory for radio monitoring and processing of radio information functions according to the order No. 39 (01/23/2008) as an independent state budgetary unit within the Center “Integrated information radio-electronic systems and technologies”. The purpose of the department is to further develop fundamental and applied research in the field of new information technologies, mathematical modeling, informatization and automation of the educational process, artificial intelligence in radio monitoring and processing of radio technical information to improve the efficiency of problem solving, recognition of radio emission sources and their carriers in conditions of a priori uncertainty to facilitate the most effective use of the scientific and pedagogical potential of the university, improving the training of students involved in scientific work, scientific personnel: graduate students, doctoral students, researchers and teachers.


Laboratory tasks

  • development of conceptual and programmatic provisions for planning and international coordination of the use of the radio frequency resource of Ukraine;
  • development of a scientific and methodological apparatus and software for assessing the effectiveness of planning and using the radio frequency resource of Ukraine;
  • development of systemic ways of creating systems and means of radio frequency monitoring and radio and radio engineering control;
  • development of software and hardware for systems and means of radio frequency monitoring and radio and radio engineering control;
  • development of devices and algorithms for detecting, measuring parameters, recognizing and determining the location of radiation sources;
  • research of ways, development of algorithms and software for joint processing of information about moving and stationary radiation sources from a variety of spatially distributed diverse sensors;
  • automation of planning, distribution and management of the use of the radio frequency resource of Ukraine;
  • development of databases for various purposes and software for central and regional radio monitoring systems and means of radio and radio engineering control;
  • development of methods for using geospatial technologies in solving radio monitoring problems and displaying coordinate information about radiation sources and objects, participation in other scientific research in the field of high technologies;
  • study and exchange of experience in domestic and foreign research and educational institutions, universities, laboratories and enterprises in order to summarize information and improve the level of implementation of research and educational work;
  • preparation for the publication of scientific monographs, articles and reports, textbooks and methodological instructions, scientific work by attracting students to research in the development of new software products in accordance with promising directions for the development of information technologies, preparing, together with students, scientific publications, reports, exhibits for exhibitions, training of highly qualified personnel – doctors of philosophy and doctors of science.

Contractual research work «Development of mathematical algorithms for the application of masks of signals of basic digital technologies» (2017)

Object of research: emitting radio electronic means of basic digital and analog radio technologies covered by the radio frequency monitoring system of Ukraine.

Subject of research: spectral masks of radiation of RES of basic digital and analog radio technologies and the possibility of their use in automated radio monitoring systems.

Purpose: creation of a base of spectral masks of radiation of RES of basic radio technologies and automation of their construction to improve the process of control (monitoring) in the Ukrainian State Center of Radio Frequencies of Ukraine.

Scientific research results:

  • generalized requirements of basic and basic general standards for the technical parameters of transmitters of 22 basic digital and analog radio technologies in accordance with the Plan for the use of the radio frequency resource of Ukraine and developed spectral “masks” of their radio emission classes;
  • an information basis was created in a tabular form with data on the parameters of the spectral masks of radio emissions and the permissible values ​​of the deviation of the assigned frequencies for each type of REM in accordance with the developed spectral “masks” of the classes of radio emissions according to the database of frequency assignments of the UCRF;
  • a database of information basis and an algorithm for the automated formation of spectral masks in a graphical form have been developed.

Based on the research results:

  • published: 2 articles and 2 reports in professional editions of Ukraine;
  • an act of implementation of the results of the work of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian State Center of Radio Frequencies” was received.

Research work «Development of a new information technology for the integrated recognition of radio-emitting objects by methods of statistical radio engineering and artificial intelligence», No. 0117U002528 DR (No. 320) (2017-2018).

Object of research and development: systems and means of observation, communication and control of objects of different bases and systems and means of RFM and RPD of Ukraine.

Research and development subject: a process, a set of methods, algorithms, criteria and indicators for evaluating the efficiency of information processing and multi-storey multi-level complex recognition and identification of structurally complex radio-emitting objects of various bases according to the data of RFM and RPD systems and means.

Purpose: development of new information technology and tools for imitation and mathematical modeling with intelligent support for decision-making and assessment of the effectiveness of systems for complex step-by-step multi-level recognition and identification of objects of different bases by the aggregate of radio emissions from their RES radar, radio communication and control in conditions of objective and subjective a priori uncertainty at stages design, development, testing and operation of systems and means of RFM and RPD

Scientific research results:

  • information and analytical studies were carried out on the types and types of radio-emitting objects of different bases, the composition of their REM and radiation parameters;
  • a scientific and methodological apparatus (methods, knowledge bases and databases) has been developed for simulation and mathematical modeling of a multilevel process in terms of signals, signatures of radio emissions and types of RES and complex – in terms of the aggregate of radio emissions from radar, communication and control, recognition and identification of radio-emitting objects by assessing its effectiveness to ensure relevant structures with information on the radio-electronic facility situation in the region;
  • a software and algorithmic apparatus (functional software) of the system of imitation and mathematical modeling of recognition and identification of radio-emitting objects has been developed for testing and evaluating the effectiveness of such systems at the stages of design, development, testing and operation of complexes and means of radio frequency monitoring, passive radar and radio countermeasures;
  • functional software and operating modes of the system of imitating and mathematical modeling of recognition and identification of radio-emitting objects have been worked out;
  • the influence of various factors (the composition of the alphabets of the classes of radio-emitting objects and RES, the size, composition and information content of the working dictionary of signs, the type and characteristics of decision-making algorithms, etc.) on the efficiency of solving problems of recognition by signal signs of classes (types) of radio emission signatures, RES and objects was investigated;
  • an instruction was developed for the user of the software “system of imitation and mathematical modeling of aircraft recognition by radio emission from airborne radioelectronic equipment” (“Stage 2”), with installation instructions.

Based on the research results:

  • 3 monographs, 2 articles and 18 English-language reports indexed in the Scopus, WoS database; 15 articles in professional publications of Ukraine and 17 reports at exhibitions and international scientific forums, 1 study guide;
  • 3 certificates of registration of copyright for a computer program; provided: 1 application for a utility model;
  • 1 Ph.D. and 4 AR masters have been defended.

Research work «Development of methods and means for processing an ensemble of signals and recognition of radio-emitting sources and objects in conditions of a priori uncertainty», No. 0119U001406 DR (No. 330) (2019-2020)

Object of research: systems and radar facilities, radio communication and control of air-based facilities and systems and facilities for general and special purposes of radio frequency monitoring of Ukraine.

Subject of research: the process, a set of methods, algorithms, criteria and indicators for evaluating the efficiency of signal information processing and multi-level complex recognition of radio-emitting objects of different bases according to the data of systems and means of RFM and RPD in conditions of structural-parametric a priori uncertainty.

Purpose: development of methods and tools for imitating and mathematical modeling of processing an ensemble of different types of signals and complex recognition of radio-emitting devices, radio-electronic devices and radio-emitting objects with overcoming a priori uncertainty of subjective and objective nature about the types of signals and their parameters, types of radio electronic devices and their radio emission, about RVO and their state and protection of the information resource by recognition in data storages and during its transmission through communication channels.

Scientific research results:

  • analyzed and substantiated (updated) methods for overcoming a priori uncertainty regarding the type and parameters of signals of radio electronic equipment, the vector of signal signs of radio emissions by the type and number of parameters, the size and content of the alphabets of classes of radio-emitting objects, the type and parameters of the function of belonging of the vector of signal signs to a particular class of recognizable objects;
  • substantiated adequate models of random signals (in the form of linear processes, periodic correlated processes, autoregression processes and distribution mixtures), which are typical for typical applied problems of signal processing and pattern recognition in the field of radio frequency monitoring;
  • Methods for recognizing given signals under conditions of a priori uncertainty have been developed on the basis of various probabilistic models, which, in contrast to the known ones, take into account the probability of signal properties;
  • a method and a statistical algorithm for monopulse processing of an ensemble of different types of signals of unknown type and parameters have been developed, which, in contrast to the known ones, implement joint detection-measurement-recognition of signals with a gradual overcoming of a priori uncertainty in their type and parameters;
  • an improved method and algorithm for the formation of signatures of radio emission of radio-electronic means of radar and radio communication, which, unlike the known ones, make it possible to cover all possible modes of operation of radio-electronic means of radar, communication and control, necessary for their recognition, have been developed;
  • on the basis of artificial intelligence for the expert system for recognizing the states of radio-emitting objects created in the previous project (No. 0117U002528 DR), an improved method and logic inference algorithm for recognizing radio-emitting objects and their states have been developed, which, unlike the known ones, take into account a priori of a subjective and subjective nature;
  • information-logical knowledge models of 5 typical airborne radio-emitting objects have been created, in which, unlike the known ones, the possibility of entering incomplete and fuzzy input information is provided;
  • a software package has been developed for simulating a multilevel signal processing and recognition process of radio electronic devices and their modes of operation, radio-emitting objects and their states for working out the functioning of recognition systems in different conditions and different degrees of a priori uncertainty;
  • a method and tools for coding and protection of an information resource for recognition in data storages and during its transmission through communication channels have been developed.

Based on the research results:

  • 3 monographs; 6 articles and 7 English-language reports with indexing in scientometric databases Scopus, WoS; 8 articles in professional editions of Ukraine and 8 reports at the ISPC; 1 study guide;
  • received 2 patents for a utility model and 3 certificates of copyright for a work;
  • 1 Ph.D. thesis and 6 AR masters have been defended;
  • 2 grants were received, funded by foreign organizations;
  • a working sample of the software package was made;
  • a manual for the PC user has been developed.

Contractual research work «Development of a scientific and methodological apparatus for optimization and mathematical modeling of communication networks» (2018-2021)

Research object: communication networks, infocommunication networks.

Purpose of work: development of a scientific methodological apparatus for optimization and modeling of communication networks and writing a monograph containing a systematic presentation of the research results.

Research methods: a systematic approach to the analysis of communication networks, methods of modeling communication systems and their optimal synthesis.

Scientific research results:

  • theoretical studies on optimization of communication systems and networks were carried out on the basis of the provisions of the theory of operations research, decision-making and mathematical analysis;
  • analyzed the classical problems and analytical methods of optimization of target functions;
  • numerous methods of scalar optimization of objective functions are considered;
  • tasks have been formulated and methods have been developed for multi-criteria optimization of communication networks in terms of a set of quality indicators;
  • substantiated and considered mathematical models of systems and processes in communication networks;
  • the features of the application of methods of scalar and multicriteria optimization in the planning and design of communication networks have been analyzed;
    systematization and analysis of standard software packages for automated modeling and optimization of communication networks was carried out.

Research work «Development of research technology for detection, analysis, recognition and direction finding of radar stations with hidden sounding signals», No. 0121U109792 (No. 340) (2021-2022)

Purpose: creation of a new research technology for modeling and optimizing complex processes for assessing electromagnetic accessibility, identifying, analyzing, recognizing and direction finding subtle radar stations with overcoming the structural-parametric a priori uncertainty of their broadband hidden sounding signals as part of the methodology for assessing electromagnetic accessibility. criteria and indicators, scientific and methodological apparatus with the development of new and improvement of known methods, procedures and algorithms for the detection, analysis and recognition of broadband latent signals and tools for modeling and calculating options for effective electronic surveillance of the radar for practical use in the relevant departments and developers of RFM and Electronic warfare.

The main idea of ​​the research work: increasing the efficiency of detecting, determining the class (type) and direction finding of weapons control radar, assessing their electromagnetic availability and the degree of threats to our forces and means, through the development of new and improvement of existing methods, procedures and algorithms for processing broadband hidden signals in the conditions of their structural-parametric a priori uncertainty and small signal-to-noise ratio at the input of passive electronic surveillance equipment receivers

Based on the results of the first stage of research:

  • 1 monograph (11 pp.) and 1 section of the monograph in the language of the European Union (2 pp.); 1 English-language article and 1 English-language article are included in the press in journals with indexing in scientometric databases (WoS), 2 English-language articles are under review in the publishing house of journals with indexing in scientometric databases, 2 reports at scientific conferences with indexing in Scopus;
  • 2 articles in professional editions of Ukraine and 16 reports at international scientific forums and conferences not included in the list of professional editions, 1 study guide: 3 patents for a useful model were received; 1 application for registration of copyright for a computer program was submitted;
  • 1 Ph.D. thesis and 4 AR masters have been defended.
