NURE YSC actively contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through scientific, educational and social initiatives.
As part of its educational efforts (SDG 4), the YSC organizes lectures and workshops on sustainable development for young professionals in Kharkiv, including educators, researchers, and civic leaders. These events focus on themes such as efficient resource use, the green movement, and social innovation.
Scientific research in support of sustainable development (SDGs 9, 7, 13) includes projects led by young researchers in renewable energy, solar panel development, energy consumption optimization, smart grid technologies, eco-friendly waste recycling, biofuels, water purification, and the application of artificial intelligence for environmental purposes.
The YSC also carries out environmental campaigns (SDGs 11, 12, 15), such as the “Green Campus” initiative, implementation of waste sorting, creation of eco-friendly zones, installation of bicycle parking, and flash mobs promoting water and electricity conservation.
Young scientists actively participate in international projects within Erasmus+, Horizon 2020, and Horizon Europe focused on sustainable development, including: Ukraine-EU: Circular Economy solutions 4 Smart and Sustainable Cities (Eco4Smart), Universities-Communities: Strengthening Cooperation (UNICOM), Empower Sustainable Digital and Green Transformation in East Ukraine’s Key Economic Sectors (EDIH), Sustainability and Internationalization Capacities to Promote Modernisation of Newcomers Higher Education in Neighbourhood East Countries (SIN-NEC), Critical Role of Public Employees in Circular Economy Implementation: Embedding Circular Economy Thinking in HEIs (PubCirEco), and Supporting European R&I through Stakeholder Collaboration and Institutional Reform (INITIATE).
The social dimension of the YSC’s work (SDGs 3, 5, 10) includes support for internally displaced persons, social startups, and participation in veteran reintegration projects such as “Retraining Veterans for Municipal Service Centers and IT Roles through Competence Center Networks”, Veterano Cyber Cluster, and the innovation hub Reboot.
The YSC is also consistently engaged in awareness-raising activities with the Gender Education Center on gender equality and supports health promotion through initiatives led by the university’s sports club.
