Ukrainian hope blooms among ruins: fir trees planted at NURE on Earth Day

24.04.2025

Amid the roar of shahed drones, sirens and the crack of broken windows, Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics presents the city with a symbol of resilience – small fir trees and flowers planted near the main building on Earth Day.

The university staff came out to plant the green plants, taking a break from alarms. Each tree and each flower is not just a sign of respect for nature, but also a metaphor for life that breaks through the concrete of war.

We want our students, who are now studying under fire, to remember: Spring always comes after winter. These trees will become a monument to our resilience. When the war is over, we will be proud to show them that this is what we have preserved.

NURE, whose windows have suffered from shock waves more than once, continues not only to teach but also to grow hope. Today, it is small trees; tomorrow, it will be a new generation of Ukrainians who will rebuild the country.

Although peace is still a long way off, the university yard reminds us that the Earth is worth fighting for even amid war. Literally with our hands, flowers and faith.

“We can’t stop the shelling, but we can plant trees”, – these words sound at NURE like a mantra for the future Victory.
