During this academic year, the History Museum of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics has significantly transformed its approach, developing from a traditional museum space into an engaging part of discovering the University, its past, present and technological potential.
The summer period was particularly active for the Museum. During these months, it welcomed more than 300 children together with their parents. Taking the current security situation into account, the visits were organised so that guests could not only explore the Museum’s exhibitions but also discover the educational and research environment of NURE.
The excursion programmes included visits to University departments and laboratories. Young visitors learned about the history of NURE, the inventions and scientific achievements of its researchers, and had an opportunity to see modern equipment and learn about the areas in which one of Ukraine’s leading technological universities is developing today.
The group tours were conducted by Valerii Leiko, a staff member of the NURE History Museum. Particular attention was paid to the continuity between generations of the University community, the development of NURE throughout its history, and its role in the scientific and public life of Kharkiv and Ukraine.
The renewed approach to the Museum’s activities has demonstrated that university history can be engaging and meaningful for a new generation. Combining historical heritage with an opportunity to see modern laboratories and technologies has made the excursions increasingly popular among children and their parents.
Even under the difficult conditions of wartime, the NURE History Museum remains an open space for preserving institutional memory, promoting science and introducing future students to the University.
