Online session of the Kharkiv branch of ACM-W Chapter

01.02.2021

The January meeting of the Kharkiv Chapter of Information and Communication Technologies ACM-W was dedicated to the topic of women’s careers in the field of IT during the pandemic.

The whole world has faced challenges never imagined.  It is clear that the effects of the coronavirus will remain with us for some time. This has prompted governments around the world to declare quarantine to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Staff reductions, business closures, and economic prospects are increasingly bleak. However, the world must evolve and the career must progress.

It is a well-known fact that women have bigger problems in their careers because they have to juggle home and office at the same time, working remotely.  Both education and job opportunities are constantly advertised.  In fact, new opportunities are emerging with the need for different types of skills due to changing needs and the work environment during and after a pandemic.  Due to the need for remote and virtual work environments, as well as the need to analyze huge amounts of data, the applicability of computer science, information and communication technologies have never been more important.

Although the world as a whole is in a very difficult situation, and the feeling of despair has never been lower, it may be very difficult to see the possibilities. ACM-W Europe would like to reach out to computer science and industry professionals at any stage of their careers or education, provide them with support and create a safe space to express such concerns and support each other.  We would like you to know that ACM-W Europe is for you to support in such difficult times in any way possible.  Before that, we organize short webinars that give you space to let us know what worries you about your career;  Tell us about any positive career steps you’ve taken and can motivate and give hope to others, or just join the conversation.

During today’s webinar, Anastasia Shapovalova, General Manager of the international outstaffing company WorkNest, as our keynote speaker revealed the current trends in the Ukrainian market of jobs for women during the pandemic.

How to deal with remote work and multitasking?  How to regulate the increase in the burden on women to do housework, including during working hours?  How to deal with depression and all fears about it?

These are just a few of the challenges a working woman faces today.  However, we will do our best to find effective solutions.
