The Center for Gender Education, Social and Psychological Service, teachers of the Department of Philosophy in the framework of the International Campaign “16 days of active action against gender-based violence” conducts a number of online events for students of the university.
Every year in Ukraine, from November 25 to December 10 inclusive, the International Campaign “16 Days of Action Against Gender Violence” is held, initiated by the First World Institute for Global Women’s Leadership in 1991 and continues to be coordinated annually by the Center for Global Leadership. Campaign start and end dates are not chosen by chance. They create a symbolic chain, combining measures against violence against women and action to protect human rights, emphasizing that any manifestation of violence against a person, regardless of gender, is a violation of human rights:
– November 25 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The day was officially declared by the UN General Assembly in 1999.
– December 1– World AIDS Day.
– December 2 – International Day against Slavery.
– December 3 – International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
– December 5 – International Volunteer Day.
– December 6 – Commemoration of students shot in Montreal.
– December 9 – International Anti-Corruption Day.
– December 10 – International Human Rights Day.
The aim of the campaign is to draw public attention to the problems of violence.
According to the WHO, almost a third of all women in the world are exposed to physical and / or sexual violence by an intimate partner or sexual violence by others during their lifetime.Up to 38% of cases of partner violence at home.It is estimated that one billion children between the ages of 2 and 17 (half of the world’s children) have suffered from physical, sexual or psychological violence or lack of care in the last year. According to the UN, every sixth woman in Ukraine has experienced at least one form of violence in the last 12 months. Between 1 and 3 million children in Ukraine are witnesses or victims of domestic violence.
This year’s campaign is dedicated to the ratification of the International Labor Organization Convention №190, which is the first international standard aimed at eliminating violence and harassment in the workplace. The International Action proposes to pay special attention to women involved in the informal labor market, whose lives and livelihoods are threatened by COVID-19 and the unprecedented economic crisis. According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), more than 60% of the world’s employment earns a living in the informal economy, and 92% of the total employment of women in developing countries is informal. They face unstable working conditions and, as a rule, are excluded from the national labor legislation and deprived of social protection (according to: https://genderindetail.org.ua/library/osobiste-yak-politi chne / gen de rne-nas i l stvo/16-days-of-activism-2020.html?fbclid=IwAR3MIm-qJKuP6 Tg1JK uh 5 snhxrVbve06HoUyyZHUa-mIVh3gvnEBMe9VqaY)
