Student programming competitions under the auspices of the ICPC are the most popular and prestigious competitions for student programmers. It all starts at the beginning of the academic year with the intra-university stage and, after several steps, reaches the final of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad, which is also the world semi-final! The best European teams based on the results of the semi-finals are invited to the European and world finals. The European finals are held in early spring of the following year, and the world finals are held in the fall. This forms a year-round cycle of student programming Olympiads.
Before the world finals, the strongest European teams – the champions of their countries – come together for the European Champions Cup. This year, the tournament took place in August at the University of Paphos in Cyprus. The only team from Ukraine invited to these competitions was a team of students from NURE. The team consisted of Roman Pitsyura, Konstantin Denisov, and Valery Grinenko.
For ten days, the strongest European teams actively competed with each other.
Our guys showed their competitiveness and, in addition to a high overall result, managed to take fourth place in the competition from Huawei, win a special tournament – a “blind contest” (participants type solutions to problems on a keyboard without a monitor), and also win the competition for solving the most difficult problems that were not solved during the main rounds.
Our team represented the country and the University with dignity at the highest level international competition and prepared well for the new Olympiad season!
