NURE student won bronze in the ICPC Graph Mining Challenge

06.07.2020

On June 27, the main ISRS holiday took place – the world final within the DAY ZERO of the ICPC-2020 WORLD FINALS. Due to the COVID-2019 pandemic, this year’s final of the ISRS World Programming Championship has been postponed to 2021.  Huawei Corporation, a partner company of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, became the global sponsor of the ICPC Final and the organizer of the central event Day Zero, a three-hour ICPC Graph Mining Challenge tournament.  More than 7,000 people from 63 countries and 193 cities registered for the tournament.  Tournament participants were asked to work on a complex graph modularity problem that did not have an exact solution (NP-complete problem).  This task is extremely important for building algorithms for finding communities on social networks.  The competition was individual, so the finalists competed with each other.  According to the rules of the world finals, the first 12 places (4 gold-4 silver-4 bronze) are considered medal medals.  This time NURE student Oleg Wallace managed to bypass his teammates and win a bronze medal in the World Cup final.
