Daryna Karpenko, a student of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, has won a silver medal at the Europe Women’s Programming Contest (EWPC 2026), an international algorithmic programming competition. Daryna is a first-year NURE student majoring in F2 Software Engineering (PZPI-26-3 group).
The final stage of the inaugural Europe Women’s Programming Contest took place in Stockholm, Sweden, on August 21–24, 2026. EWPC is an international individual algorithmic programming competition for women, launched with the involvement of ICPC, Keppnisforritunarfélag Íslands and Kodsport Sverige, with support from Jane Street.
The road to Stockholm began with an online qualification round. Based on its results, only 20 top contestants from across Europe were invited to participate in the on-site final. Unlike the traditional team format of ICPC competitions, EWPC is an individual contest, with each participant solving the problems independently. The four-hour final featured nine algorithmic problems.
Competing among some of Europe’s strongest young programmers, Daryna Karpenko earned a silver medal at EWPC 2026, adding another major international achievement to her record.
Daryna already has extensive experience in high-level informatics competitions. She won bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in 2022 and 2023 and three gold medals at the European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Her national achievements include winning the Ukrainian Olympiad in Informatics in 2023, the Ukrainian Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics in 2021 and 2023, and the Ukrainian Junior Olympiad in Informatics in 2021.
The EWPC 2026 silver medal marks another important milestone for Daryna. She is now continuing her educational and professional development as a student of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, pursuing a degree in Software Engineering.
