Researchers from NURE presented the results of their work in the field of assistive technologies for people with visual impairments. The spatial navigation system was presented during a scientific conference held at the V. G. Korolenko Kharkiv State Scientific Library.
Representatives of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at NURE delivered a presentation entitled “Features of the Development of a Navigation System for People with Visual Impairments.” The authors of the research are Yana Nosova, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering; Oleg Avrunin, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor and Head of the Department; and Andrii Sokolov, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Department.
The research focuses on current approaches to the development of navigation systems designed to assist people with visual impairments in independent mobility and spatial orientation. The advancement of such technologies has significant practical value for improving user safety and contributing to the development of an accessible and inclusive urban environment.
Participation of NURE researchers in the conference provided an opportunity to present the results of the Department of Biomedical Engineering’s research to the professional community, discuss modern approaches to assistive technology development, and exchange experience regarding their further improvement and practical application.
The event was moderated by Hanna Prokhorova, Head of the Department of Scientific and Information Support for Innovation Processes at the V. G. Korolenko Kharkiv State Scientific Library. The participants were also addressed by Natalia Petrenko, Director of the Library and Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine; Natalia Sukhorukova, Chief Specialist of the Department of Science, Higher and Vocational Education of the Department of Education and Science of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration; and Larysa Pyzhova, Deputy Head of the Society of Inventors and Innovators of Ukraine and Director of Constanta LLC.
NURE researchers’ work in the field of assistive technologies and inclusive navigation addresses current challenges in biomedical engineering and is focused on the practical application of technologies to improve people’s quality of life. This research area also contributes to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3 “Good Health and Well-being,” SDG 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure,” and SDG 10 “Reduced Inequalities.”
