From 16 to 31 August 2026, the international European Countries’ Champions Programming Tournament was held at Neapolis University Pafos in Paphos, Republic of Cyprus. Ukraine was represented at the competition by two teams from Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics.
The experienced KhNURE_KoRoVa! team, consisting of Valerii Hrynenko, Kostiantyn Denysov and Roman Pitsura, demonstrated a high level of algorithmic programming skills, received a Third Degree Diploma and took 5th place in the overall tournament standings. The team achieved this impressive result despite competing with an incomplete roster and finishing ahead of, among others, teams representing the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.
The second KhNURE team, KhNURE_Zakolot, consisted of first-year students majoring in F2 Software Engineering: Daryna Karpenko, Taras Derkach and Andrii Kholod. It was their first experience of participating in an international programming tournament of this level. Although the team competed outside the official standings, its performance placed it among the tournament’s top 20 teams.
Both teams were coached by Oleksandr Vechur, Associate Professor at the Department of Software Engineering at KhNURE, who also headed the Ukrainian delegation.
The tournament brought together participants from Germany, Serbia, the Netherlands, Poland, Denmark, Romania, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Greece, Türkiye, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the United States. During 13 intensive days, the participants solved challenging algorithmic problems, analysed and corrected errors, expanded their knowledge and enhanced their teamwork and competitive programming skills. Competition and training activities lasted up to 12 hours a day.
