NURE held a scientific seminar dedicated to qualities of education in the conditions of distance learning

09.10.2020

The current challenges posed by the COVID2019 virus pandemic, and the therefore stringent measures of long-term total quarantine in emergencies, are leading to a complete shift to distance learning, which has become ancillary to most disciplines throughout the teaching cycle. Therefore, along with the possibility of posting e-learning materials with presentations, calculation and test tasks, as well as organizing interactive interaction with students in video conferencing, it is necessary to provide the learning process with the most realistic content available for distance learning services. Video content based on panoramic video technologies can become such content at the present stage.

At the Department of Biomedical Engineering of NURE for distance learning of students in quarantine, a new educational content was created, which is based on the use of modern video technologies with the effect of presence.

Panoramic video is not just futuristic in the form of regular classrooms, classrooms, laboratories and computer classes. This is an opportunity to conduct laboratory work in technical disciplines, which uses complex hardware with the highest possible levels of clarity and realism when working on complex equipment with macro and micro-review, demonstration of medical devices, combining the latest technologies and explanations with chalk in classical training blackboard. This is a real effect of presence in the classroom, where there is a teacher who demonstrates and explains the principles of operation of equipment, and students at their workplaces in cyberspace!

These are gigabytes of educational video content, which can interest a modern student and increase the efficiency of distance learning.  This is an opportunity to create content in which the user’s field of view is not tied to the choice of operator.

The seminar was addressed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Filatov V.O. He told about the contribution of the University, in particular the BME Department, in the indicators of NURE in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings. Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Avrunin O.G. made a report “The use of video technology with the effect of presence to create modern educational video content in quarantine“.
