Olena Tserkovna, Associate Professor at the Department of Physical Education and Sport of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, participated in the FIMBA European Maxibasketball Championship held in Athens, Greece.
The NURE representative competed as a member of the Ukrainian national women’s team in the 60+ age category.
The major international tournament brought together approximately 200 teams from 35 countries. Athletes competed in age categories ranging from 30 to 85, demonstrating that a passion for sport, team spirit and the determination to succeed have no age limits.
Because of the full-scale war, the members of the Ukrainian team are currently living in different countries. Nevertheless, their commitment to basketball, long-standing friendship and desire to represent Ukraine with dignity enabled them to reunite on the court.
The Ukrainian national team played five matches and achieved three victories. As a result, the team finished ninth among 15 teams in its age category.
Olena Tserkovna’s participation in this international competition is not only a significant sporting achievement but also an inspiring example for students. Continuing to train, maintaining excellent physical condition, competing at European championships and remaining active at any age demonstrate that sport is truly a way of life.
A lecturer’s personal example is one of the most effective ways to motivate students to engage in physical activity, take responsibility for their health and embrace an active lifestyle.
