Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics has successfully passed the competitive selection conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for urgent measures aimed at strengthening the energy resilience of higher education institutions in 2026.
Under budget programme 2201160, NURE has received funding for the development and expert review of design and cost-estimate documentation for three major infrastructure projects:
- a solar power plant for Building I-6 — UAH 400,000;
- a hybrid gas generator for a group of University buildings — UAH 800,000;
- an autonomous gas boiler facility for Building Z-5 — UAH 2.5 million.
The total funding allocated for the preparatory stage amounts to UAH 3.7 million. The relevant expenditures were approved by orders of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine issued on 9 and 28 July 2026.
These projects represent an important step towards creating an energy-resilient university campus capable of maintaining critical systems during prolonged power outages. This includes supporting the educational process, lighting, communications, security systems, engineering equipment and stable heat supply across University facilities.
The development of solar generation is particularly significant. Renewable energy will help reduce the University’s dependence on external electricity supply, decrease consumption from conventional energy sources and provide a foundation for the future development of a managed campus microgrid.
The hybrid generator and autonomous gas boiler facility are transitional energy-resilience measures. They are intended to provide backup electricity and heat, improve the controllability of the University’s energy infrastructure and reduce the risk of disruption to educational activities during emergency and scheduled outages. Combining local generation, renewable energy and modern control systems will create conditions for more efficient use of energy resources.
The NURE initiative contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The preparation of the three projects is an initial yet essential stage in the modernisation of NURE’s energy infrastructure. High-quality technical documentation and expert review will provide the basis for the subsequent construction, equipment installation and comprehensive development of an autonomous energy supply system for the University.
