A modern university is not just classrooms, lectures, and scientific research. It is primarily a space for people where personalities are shaped, character is forged, and self-confidence is born. At Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, one of the key hubs of such support is the “NURE Without Limits” Accessibility Service, and its key driving force is Alina Ovcharenko, a specialist, accessibility ambassador, and mentor.
In times of challenges and uncertainty, it is especially important to have someone nearby who will not only offer advice but also help find inner resources. Alina Ovcharenko combines practical experience at the university with strong professional training in psychology. She is proficient in certified psychosocial support methodologies from the World Health Organization (specifically “Problem Management Plus” and “Self-Help Plus”), and specializes in working with PTSD and overcoming the consequences of stress under martial law.
As a mentor, Alina works to ensure that every woman in the university community feels her worth, has a space for self-expression, and enjoys a safe environment for development:
- conducts practical trainings (including her author workshop “Confident Behavior”), where participants learn to defend personal boundaries, overcome imposter syndrome, and communicate effectively;
- helps girls and women master self-help techniques during stress and aids in preventing professional and emotional burnout under martial law;
- helps girls overcome stereotypes in technical and IT fields, promote their own ideas, and realize their potential in science and management;
- implements inclusive initiatives together with the Student Senate and youth hubs, creating an environment of equal opportunities and mutual support at the university.
Thanks to this mentorship work, the young women and women of NURE gain not only knowledge, but most importantly – belief in themselves.
NURE continues to be a place of successful, strong, and self-sufficient people, where a culture of mental health care and personal growth is an integral part of educational life.
