Today, Ukraine commemorates the Holodomor—the genocide of the Ukrainian people by the Soviet regime—and honors the memory of its millions of victims.
Three times, a great famine struck our land. Everything was taken from the peasants, down to the last grain. The regime was cruel in its determination, and the horror of those events is still difficult to comprehend.
As we remember this tragic page in Ukrainian history, let us light a candle of remembrance and honor the victims with a moment of silence.
