Every year on the fourth Thursday in April, International Day of Girls in ICT is celebrated around the world to draw attention to the importance of digital skills for successful professional careers in various fields.
This year, International Day of Girls in ICT is celebrated on April 28.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has defined the theme for 2022 as “Access & Safety”. ITU and partners are constantly working to develop solutions and ideas to reduce barriers to access and improve safety on the Internet for girls and young women. Overall, the initiative aims to create a worldwide environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to pursue training and careers in rapidly evolving information and communications technology, enabling girls and technology companies to benefit from greater female participation.
The event was co-organized in conjunction with ACM-W Europe, Kharkiv ICT ACM-W Chapter and ACM-W Sarajevo on the basis of the International University of Sarajevo in a mixed format. Excellent speakers and speakers, namely David Saunders, Bergin Kulenovic and Zerina Mandzo (UN Women, Bosnia and Herzegovina), Ruth Lennon (Chair of ACM-W Europe), Raquel Martinez Hernandez (EMEAR Technical Manager, Cisco Networking Academy), Dr. Oleksandra Eremenko (National Radio Electronics Academy Kharkiv), Emina Brkanic (Mibor), presented inspirational talks.
Dr. Eremenko O.S., professor at the ICI Department, presented a report on the activities of the Kharkiv ICT ACM-W Chapters, whose members are representatives of the scientific community of the department and the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics. From the side of the International University of Sarajevo the organizer of the celebration of the International Girls in ICT Day was senior lecturer Amal Mersni. The event was also attended by Prof. O. Lemeshko, Head of the Department of ICI, PhD, engineer and coordinator of international cooperation of the Department of AI Titova L.V., student of the Department of ICI Zhuravleva A.S. (TRTC-17-2).
Celebration of the International Day of Girls in ICT is one more step to increase awareness of trends and newest trends in info-communication technologies, to support technological education and encourage more and more girls and young women to pursue active careers in STEM.
