The History of the Faculty of Electronic and Biomedical Engineering

The post-Soviet years as a time of rapid development of radioelectronics and the beginning of its intensive use in space technology, military affairs, the workplace, medicine and at home. The country needed more and more highly skilled professionals in the field of electronics. For this purpose have been opened a number of radio engineering and radio physical faculties and institutes. In Kharkov training of engineers started on radio technical in 1946, in Kharkov Polytechnic Institute of V.I. Lenin-KhPI (now the National Technical University “NTU”), and training in radio physics in 1952, in Kharkov State University of A.M .Gorkiy-KhNU (now Kharkov National University of Karazin V.N.). In Kharkov Aviation Institute (now the National Aerospace University of N.E. Zhukovskiy “KhAI”) radio engineering faculty opened in 1959.

Nevertheless, the requests of economy strained the capacity of universities in producing these professionals. In Kharkov only in those years were 12 large enterprises and organizations of radio electronic profile, and their human resources requirements with higher education was about 500 people a year. Therefore, in 1962, based KhNI Kharkov Institute of mechanical engineering, automatics ans computer facilities (HIGMAVT) was created, which opened radio engineering faculty in 1963.

Faculty of Electronic Engineering in HIGMAVT was organized in September 1964, and was named Faculty of Radio Physics and Electronics. The first dean was Associate Professor Bulgakov Boris Mikhailovich, a specialist in the field of radio physics, formerly head of Radio Physics faculty in KhNU.

Much honor for establishing the faculty belongs to former managers – Rector of HIGMAVT Associate Professor Tereschenko Alexei Ivanovich, pro – rector of studies Associate Professor Chervov Vasily Grigorievichu and Dean of radio engineering faculty Associate Professor Kukush Vitaliyu Dmitrivich.

In addition to transferred to the radio faculty chairs electronic devices (Head cafes. Assoc. Prof. Gorelik A.L.) Microwave Physics (Assoc. Prof. Tereschenko A.I.), an industrial electronics (Assoc. Prof. Trubetskov L.V.), and General Physics (Assoc. Prof. Shingarev L.I.), in 1964, at the new faculty chairs formed radiophysics (Prof. Shestopalov V.P.), plasma physics (Assoc. Prof. Yakimenko I..P), design and technology of electronic devices (Assoc. Prof. Lisenko L .G.).

In 1964, implemented the first intake of students at the Faculty of Electronics and Radio Physics in specialties 0704 – “Radio Physics and Electronics” (RPE), 0612 – “Industrial Electronics” (IE) and 0611 – “Electronic Equipment” (EE). Specialty RPE in the university was opened first, then a specialty IE and EE transferred from the Faculty of HIGMAVT radio engineering there. The first reception at specialty IE implemented in 1962, while the EE in 1959, Specialty EE starts at KhPI (see A Short History of the department of Microelectronics, Electronic Devices and Appliances).

An important event for the Faculty of Engineering was the first release of students of specialty “Electronic equipment”, in February 1965. In accordance with then-existing distribution system of young professionals graduates were sent to work in the entire Soviet Union republics. The most numerous groups of specialists from the first issue received a nomination for the electronics industry enterprises Moscow suburbs and Saratov.

In September 1966, Faculty of Radio Physics and Electronics divided into two distinct: Faculty Radio Physics-RP (Dean Assoc. Prof. Bulgakov B.M.) and the Faculty of Electronics-EL (Dean Assoc. Prof. Horoshaylo Yevgeny Stepanovich). By the faculty of the department of Radio Physics retreated Microwave Physics, Radio Physics, Plasma Physics, General Physics, the newly formed faculty of Physical Foundations of Electronics-PFE (Head cafes. Assoc. Prof. Bulgakov B.M.), and this transferred into Higher Mathematics faculty Dept. (headed cafes. Assoc. Prof. Gluskin L.M.). The Faculty of Electronics, the predecessor of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, left the department Electronic Equipment, Industrial Electronics, construction and Technology of Electronic Devices. In addition to the newly formed the same year the department of Technical Electronics-TE (Head cafes. Assoc. Prof. Ogorodneychuk I.F.), the Faculty of Electronics moved even Dept. Of Chemistry (Assoc. Prof. Pivnenko V.P.), Dept. Of Labor Protection (Assoc. Prof. Lazarenko E.A.) and the Dept. Of Mechanics (Assoc. Prof. Grushko G.S.).

Since 1968 physics chair manages Assoc. Prof. Chervov V.G, and chair of Electronic Devices since 1970 – Assoc. Prof. Horoshajlo E.S.

In higher educational eastableshment formation the big attention of administration and a management of both faculties was given to selection of personnels. At this time from KhNU come the doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, the professor Shestopalov V. P. the large expert in radio physics area, subsequently the full member of National Academy of sciences of Ukraine, the headed Institute of radio physics and electronics (Institute of Radio Electronics) National Academy of Science of Ukraine (NASU) , and the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, senior lecturer Jakimenko I.P. – later the doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, the manager of Department of Institute of theoretical physics NASU (Kiev). For management of chair of designing and technology of electronic devices the chief engineer of the Poltava enterprise of p.b. 22 (later – factory “Znamya”) Lisenko L.G. who had also experience of practical work at the enterprises of electronic industry of Moscow suburbs and abroad has been invited.

At this time on faculty chairs young teachers and post-graduate students – graduates KhNU worked: Litvinenko L.N., Tretjakov O. N., Tsvyk A.I. (radio physics chair); Fisun А.И (chair PFE); Nazarenko L.A. (chair of physics of plasma). Nowadays all of them became known scientists, doctors a fiz.-floor-mat. Sciences. For example, Litvinenko L.N. – the director of Radio-astronomical institute of National Academy of sciences of Ukraine, academician NASU; Nazarenko L.A. – the manager department in NNC «Metrology Institute», the winner of the State award in the field of a science and technicians of Ukraine 2002

There is a hard work on creation of material base for educational process and scientific researches. The big help in it is rendered by the industrial enterprises and other high schools. Together with teachers students and post-graduate students work.

Evening and correspondence forms of training open.

In Soviet time all forms of training were carried out only at the expense of state budgetary funds. In 60th years at students of specialty EE the usual grant made 49 rbl. 50 copeck (it was for 10 rbl. above, than at students of other specialities of high school). Thus in a hostel the student monthly paid for a place 1 rbl. 80 copeck, and journey to a trolley bus cost 4 copeck the Salary of the young expert – beginning engineer – depended on a place of work a little and laid within 95-105 roubles. The average salary in branches of economy of republic, for example, in 1965 was equaled 93 rbl. 90 copeck.

Nevertheless, the prices for the scientific and technical literature were quite comprehensible to students, teachers and young experts, and city scientific libraries served all readers absolutely free of charge. It is necessary to tell, that in budgetary expenses on preparation of post-graduate students their business trips to Moscow for work in the State library of the USSR of V.I.Lenin (since 1992 – the Russian state library) were provided.

For comparison: in 2003 the usual grant made 46 грн.75 copeck (since July, 2004 increase of the grant to 102 грн is planned.), the place in a hostel for the student-state employee costed 24 грн. In a month, for the contract employee – 29 грн. The Students-contract employees who are citizens of Ukraine, at internal faculty ET annually pay for training 2700 грн. (About 500 dollars), students-foreigners – 950 dollars the Average wages in branches of economy of Ukraine in 2003 were equaled 462 грн. 27 copeck

In 1968 there is a new reorganisation in high school structure. As according to decision of Ministry of Higher Educational Establishment USSR since 1969 a speciality «Radio Physics and Electronics» should be translated in KhSU, and «Industrial Electronics» – in KhPI the Radio Physics faculty is disbanded (the order on KhIRE № 546-r from 9.10.68). All chairs are transferred on Electronics faculty, some of them – chairs of Radio Physics, Physics of plasma and Industrial Electronics – is only temporary, and by 1971 they are closed.

Till September, 1969 as the dean of faculty of electronics Bulgakov B.M. works, and then it is replaced by Associate Professor Konovalov Vladimir Emeljanovich, the expert in area of Microwave Physics. In history FEE Konovalov V.E. was youngest of all former heads of faculty – it became the dean in 31 year.

On the beginning of work of Konovalov V.E. in a new post it is necessary translation process specified above specialties in other high schools and closing of their main chairs: Radio Physicists, Physicists of plasma and Industrial Electronics. On FEE there was only specialty EE which was unique at faculty up to 1982 the Annual plan of an enrolment of students for this specialty under day, correspondence and evening forms of training made 150 people

Except main chair EE, in preparation gradient engineers specialties EE (EDA) till 1999 on equal terms took part and letting out chair of Microwave physics (since 1991 – PFEE). In this connection at faculty on one specialty two state examination boards (SEC) on protection of degree projects simultaneously worked. The third was sometimes created also State Examination Commission, in 80-90 it worked at NPO «Khartron» for the students who were carrying out there degree projects.

From September, 1971 till June 1972 Konovalov V.E. passed scientific training in the Colombian university (New York, the USA). During this time of a duty of dean PFE the Assoc.Prof. of chair of Physics Denisov Sergey Sergeevich executed.

During the considered period of business trip of scientists in the countries as spoke then, capitalist camp were enough unusual occurrence. Year training of teachers – Lavrinovich N.A. in Germany, Shein A.G. in Japan, Lisenko L.G. and Konovalov V.E/ in the USA, Tereshchenko A.I. trips to Holland were event for faculty in the late sixties and in the early seventies. After returning home each of them had to address repeatedly to various audiences and to share the impressions about abroad. Thereby they as though combined pleasant with useful – during Soviet time each high school teacher was a member of a society “Knowledge” (a society on distribution of political and scientific knowledge) and has been obliged within a year to read certain quantity of no-charge lectures on themes, feasible for itself and interesting to listeners.

In 70th years it is necessary to note unknown scope in activity of student’s building groups – SBG. This movement gets general character. Many students, post-graduate students and young experts of faculty receive experience of industrial and organizing work on building objects of the Tyumen, Smolensk, Kharkov areas, on virgin lands of Kazakhstan and even on Kamchatka. SBG worked on a construction of habitation, iron and highways, on building objects oil and gas and an agricultural purpose. There was even a term – «a labour semester».

Annually in the beginning of summer from Kharkov to Siberia the whole railway echelons with SBG went. Students in SBG were called as fighters, at the head of group there was a commander. Certainly, in each group there was a commissioner, there was also a chief of a staff. SBG had bright names – “Ermak”, “North”, «Turtas» (by name of the river in the Tyumen region), “Quantum”, “Algorithm”, etc. From among known commanders SBG of faculty of electronics who were students, post-graduate students and young employees KhIRE, it is possible to name Alekseev V.A., Demchenko P., Dubrovin J.V., Koltsov V.P., Kostyukov O. A., Lysenkov N.A., etc. The organization of works depended On abilities of heads in SBG and finally – the size of earnings. Many students, working in SBG, completely provided themselves with means for the whole academic year, not resorting to the help of parents for all period of study.

Work in SBG has pressed the most mass in 60th years and quite accessible to students and teachers a rest kind – amateur tourism. Uncountable groups of tourists of Kharkov could be met almost in any point of Soviet Union. Beginners, as a rule, started to get marching experience in mountains and canyons of Crimea where many went even for May holidays. In due course these travellers became incorrigible romanticists, the well-known bards – J.Vizbor, A.Gorodnitsky, B.Okudzhava were their idols then only getting popularity, and nowadays, etc.

In 60-70 at students and teachers evenings of amateur performances used the big popularity. Was very uneasy to get for institute evening of rest. New Year’s concerts had especial success. They were rather free from ideological frameworks which were set on other celebratory actions. The considerable merit in creation of student’s theatre of variety miniatures – STVM (the predecessor of KVN – club cheerful and resourceful) in high school belonged to the item to the teacher of chair of electronic devices Volkov J.A., graduate FEE. Being the student, it has passed known variety school in KhPI. It is necessary to tell, that theatre with which in the student’s years Volkov J.A. worked, occupied prize-winning places in all-Union competitions of STVMs where Arcady Raikin was frequent the judge. Popularity of STVM of the Kharkov polytechnicians those years was, perhaps, not more low, than at a command of KVN-KhAI of the end of 90th years – the champion of the UIR.

On a scene of assembly hall KhIRE the vocal talent of the student of group of the RF-64-3 Verestnikov V.A. which became the winner of All-Union television competition rather popular during this period «Hallo, we search for talents!». Then Vladislav was invited to study to Moscow, and now it by the leading soloist (baritone) of the State academic Big theatre of Russia, the national actor of the Russian Federation.

The system existing in the Soviet time SC (socialist competition) has been urged to stimulate labour productivity growth. On set of the developed indicators efficiency of work of separate workers and collectives was estimated. Socialist competition, working out of indicators and summarizing the trade-union organization was engaged in organization questions. It was without fail taken into consideration and public (no-charge) work of employees. Winners were awarded by passing Red banners, pendants, medals «the Winner in socialist competition», certificates of honour, monetary awards, permits for rest. Photos of winners were brought on so-called honour rolls of various levels.

Following the results of socialist competition Electronics faculty repeatedly won first place among 5 faculties of high school. At this time structure KhIRE, except Electronics faculty (EL), included faculties: Radio Engineering (RE), Radio Equipment Designing (RED), Computer Facilities (CF) and Control Systems (CS).

The described period is characterized by appreciable increase in volume of scientific and research works at the faculty, essential growth of number of protection of master’s theses. In 1967 the thesis for a doctor’s degree is protected by Tereshchenko A.I., in 1970 – Ogorodnejchuk I.F., in 1975 – Shein A.G.

In 1974 the chemistry chair, in 1975 – chair of physical bases of electronics is disbanded.

The chair of Technical Electronics (TE) in 1974 is transferred on faculty of Radio Equipment Designing (RED) as at that time an educational and scientific profile of chair corresponded to specialties of the specified faculty (in 1978 faculty RED more have renamed in DRCE – Designing of Radio-and Computing Equipment, and in 1991 it has received the present name: faculty ED – Electronic Devices).

Chair TE has come back to faculty of electronics in September, 1982

In January, 1975 the dean of faculty senior lecturer Byh Anatoly Ivanovich, the expert in area optoelectronics is selected.

During this period at faculty of 4 chairs: Physicists, Microwave physicists, Electronic Devices – ED (since 1974 – the manager Assoc.Prof. Shein A.G.) and Theoretical bases of Electrical Engineers – TBEE (since 1970 – manager prof. Smeljakov V.V.). Prof. Smeljakov V.V. has come in KhIRE from the Kharkov higher military-command engineering high school of the Marshal of Soviet Union N.I.Krylov – KhMCE (nowadays – the Kharkov military university) and has replaced as managing chair Assoc.Prof. Luzganova V.N. who managed chair since 1969 Chair of Designing and Technology of Electronic Devices – DTED is disbanded in 1974, and the basic part of employees passes to chair ED.

For the purpose of rapprochement of process of preparation of experts with manufacture at PO “Communard” the branch of faculty of electronics is opened. Lectures to the students-night-school students working at factory, are read by teachers of Higher educational establishment in school № 100 (Pomerki) which for this purpose rented the enterprise.

Teachers of faculty regularly go in Svetlovodsk (the Kirovograd region) for employment with students of corresponding form of training of whom the academic groups were formed. In the majority заочники specialties ED worked at factory of pure metals and at radio factory. With these enterprises scientific communications also are established. In Svetlovodsk functioned general technical faculty (GTF) institute with biennial training after which termination students continued study in Kharkov.

Curricula are modernized – there is a strengthening of theoretical and practical preparation in the field of microelectronics.

The considerable attention is given to educational work with students. Work of curators (instructors) of the academic groups is improved, student’s problems of the general and personal character are solved with their help. In 1975 with introduction in operation of a faculty hostel № 5 on Alekseyevka the habitation provides all nonresident students.

Annual releases of experts, as a rule, are unlike against each other. One student’s streams are remembered to teachers more, others it is less. From among appreciable releases it is possible to note stream ED-74, for example. It is Enough to tell, that on this stream known teachers of high school of Vasilev S.V., Vasjanovich A.V., Gritsunov A.V., Pisarenko V. M, Prasol I.V., the scientific employee Bendeberja G.N. studied nowadays.

In September, 1980 Assoc. Prof. Bykov Michael Makarovich, the expert in area of radio physics and quantum electronics becomes the dean of faculty.

It is necessary to consider as the important events of the subsequent period preparation and opening of a new speciality 0627 – «Electronic medical devices» (EMD) at chair of Technical Electronics (TE), managed by prof. Ogorodnejchuk I.F. In September, 1982 the first enrolment of students on specialty EMD is carried out. On 25 planned places entrants have submitted 93 statements, and the first academic group has been fully completed by gold medalists. It was record competition among all specialties of high school existing during this period:

– Electronic devices (ED);

– Radio engineering (RE);

– Multichannel telecommunication (MCT);

– Designing and radio equipment manufacture (DREM);

– Designing and manufacture of electronic computer (DMEC);

– Electronic computers (EC);

– The automated control systems (ACS);

– The applied mathematics (AM).

From February, 1980 till August 1981 the physics chair is headed by senior lecturer Denisov S.S., the expert in physics of the optical and issue phenomena. It was replaced invited of KhPTI by the known scientist in area of technics of accelerators of elementary particles professor Grishaev I.A. – the pupil of academician Sinelnikov K.D. Last worked in due time together with Kapitsa P.L. in Cambridge for E. Rezerford. In September, 1982 the physics chair passes to faculty DREC (nowadays faculty of electronic devices – ED). Since 1984 at the head of physics chair becomes Assoc. Prof. Kozar A.I., and since 1997 and on present time manages it the prof. Storozhenko V.A.

In 1982 institute in the name of the dean of faculty of electronics Assoc. Prof. Bykov M.M. both prof. Shein A.G. managing chairs and prof. Tereshchenko A.I. reports in Moscow to the scientifically-methodical commission of the Ministry of the higher and secondary education of the USSR about a condition of preparation of engineers of the specified specialty in KhIRE. Ministry of higher educational establishments of the USSR has given an appreciation to level of preparation of graduates KhIRE on a specialty «Electronic devices».

In August, 1983 of Bykov M.М. becomes first pro-rector ХИРЭ, and electronics faculty is headed by senior lecturer Soloha Vladimir Porfirevich.

In the beginning 80 special attention is given to practical preparation of experts. The strengthening of relations of high school with manufacture was promoted by opening of branches of chair ED in SCTB “Kinescope” (Lvov) and at factory “Graviton” (Chernovtsy), and also branches of chair of physics in IRE SA USSR and at factory “Znamya” (Poltava).

Feature of educational process of the Soviet period was attraction of students for autumn agricultural works. Annually in September or in October students of the first years KhIRE led by teachers left to work in collective farms and state farms. In southern areas of Ukraine (Crimea, the Kherson region, etc.) students performed the diversified works, but, naturally, preferred to work on gathered of water-melons and grapes. In the Kharkov area students of faculty of electronics by the developed long-term tradition gathered apples in state farm “Volchansky”. The educational schedule of an autumn semester should be corrected with the account agricultural works.

In field works mobile student’s concert groups – propaganda brigades were organized. Their performances have been organized for inhabitants of village and students working in given district. Each brigade agitated rural youth to arrive for study in the institute, on the specialty. The typical concert program included compering, execution of national and Komsomol songs, and also песенных smash hits of those years. Variety miniatures from a student’s life used exclusive success. Painted by irony and self-irony of an interlude, certainly, promoted propaganda work on attraction in higher educational establishment of entrants.

The concert went under accompaniment of instrumental ensemble. During the period, when yet there were no widespread electromusical instruments (to second half 60), the orchestra included a pipe, a saxophone (clarnet), an accordion, a guitar, a contrabass and drum more often. After a concert – dances near club under “live” music which in night silence spread far around and sounded unusually purely and touchingly. The rock and even a twist then were under an ideological interdiction as bourgeois dances. But who could follow it in village?

To works on city buildings and vegetable storehouses, and also to шефской the help to collective farms and state farms, except students, scientific employees, engineers and laboratories staff were regularly involved. Among sponsored economy KhIRE in 70-80 there were integrated poultry farms in settlement Peresechnoe and in c. Tokarevka (both is in Dergachevsky area), etc.

Students, post-graduate students and scientific employees of all faculties worked also on building of new cases KhIRE. In 1972 case “z”, and in 1976 – case “i” has been put in operation. Thus, the building tradition which has been put in pawn still in 30th years at a construction of the main case of institute and at its post-war restoration proceeded.

Almost all students and employees of institute were members of a society on law and order protection – voluntary national teams (VNT). The Central recreation park of M. Gorkiy was the basic place of watch of combatants KhIRE. In the evenings combatants together with police patrolled on the Central and Lime avenues of park, and also were on duty on a summer dance pavilion.

Proceeds begun in 1975 and the preparation which has ended in 1988 of engineers on specialty ED for union republics, mainly for the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. With that end in view in respect of an enrolment of students 10 places were annually allocated, and entrance examinations and competition spent the corresponding organizations directly in republics. Many came for study in ХИРЭ and besides an allocated quota. For the help rendered in preparation of qualified personnel for electronic industry, in the early eighties Ministerial council of Azerbaijan has directed to the address of administration and faculty the letter of thanks.

From students of that period trained at faculty it is possible to allocate especially Omarov M.A. who after the institute termination has continued training in postgraduate study, has protected candidate, and then – doctor’s dissertations. Now he works as the professor on chair of technology and automation of manufacture of radio equipment KhIRE. Omarov M.А. is the leader of friendly organization Azerbaijan in Kharkov.

In connection with change of the nomenclature of specialties in system of higher education of the USSR since 1988 specialty ED is renamed in «Electronic devices and appliance» – EDA (20.04), and specialty EMD – in «Biotechnical and medical devices and systems» – BMDS (19.05). According to names and new qualifying characteristics of specialties there are changes in educational working plans.

During subsequent period KhIRE prepares engineers on 12 specialties. Except EDA and BMDS, here there are also specialties:

RE – a radio engineering;

MCT – multichannel telecommunication;

MCQM – metrology, standardization and quality management;

DTREM – designing and technology of radio engineering means;

DTECM– designing and technology of electronic computer means;

AM – the applied mathematics;

ACS – the automated control systems;

SAD – systems of the automated designing;

SCFAS – the software of computer facilities and the automated systems;

CCSN – computers, complexes, systems and networks.

In 1991 names of main chairs change: chair ED is called now «Electronic devices and appliance» (EDA), chair TE – «Biomedical electronics» (BME), chair Microwave physics – «Physical bases of electronic technics» (PBET), and General Technocal chair GTC receives the name of chair Theoretical electrical engineers and electronics (TEEE). Chair EDA the Assoc. Prof. Vantsan V.M. (since 1985) heads, chair PFEE – the Assoc. Prof. Bykov M.M. (since 1988), chair BME – Assoc. Prof. Mustetsov N.P. (since 1991), chair TEEE – Assoc. Prof. Byh A.I. (since 1979).

The personnel potential of faculty grows, theses for a doctor’s degree protect Byh A.I. (1990), and then graduates of doctoral studies – Semenets V.V. (1992), Ruzhentsev I.V. (1994), Churjumov G.I. (1997).

In 1991 electronics faculty receives the present name – faculty of Electronic Technics. (FET).

Since January, 1995 professor Aleksandrov Jury Nikolaevich – the expert in radio physics and electronics area becomes the dean of faculty.

Same year at chair PFEE the new specialty 7.090803 opens: «Lasers and optoelectronics» (LOE) which in 1998 has changed the code number and the name – 7.091101: «Laser and optoelectronic engineering» (LOEE). In 1998 the specialty 7.090804 is opened: «Physical and bio-medical electronics» (PBME), come in the stead to a specialty 7.090806: «Biomedical electronics» (BME) which in 1994 also has replaced specialty BMDS. Specialties EDA in 1998 the code number 7.090802 is appropriated.

Chair BME is main and for a specialty 7.091002 – «Biotechnical and medical devices and systems» (BMDS) which in 1995 has been opened in higher educational establishment repeatedly, but already at faculty of electronic devices (now specialty BMDS concerns an educational and qualifying direction «Electronic devices»). Nevertheless, disciplines of biotechnical character for students of this specialty and дипломирование are conducted by teachers of chair BME.

Last years scientific communications of chairs of faculty with foreign educational institutions – England, Germany, Holland, Spain, Mexico, the USA, France have considerably extended. Teachers, students and post-graduate students had an opportunity to be trained and training at the best universities of the West.

For the purpose of rapprochement of a national education system with the concept of formation accepted in the western countries, since 1995 instead of long-term institute preparation of engineers the university, so-called multistage system – the bachelor, the expert (engineer), the master is entered. These transformations have demanded from collective of teachers of considerable efforts on working out of new methodical maintenance of educational process and modernisation of educational base. Graduation examination and release of bachelors on internal branch is spent after 4 years of training, and for assignment of qualification of the engineer and магистерские works graduates protect degree projects, as well as earlier, after the termination 5 courses in June.

In September, 1995 on faculty ET the physical education chair comes. Earlier it was a part of so-called chairs at administration, i.e. not concerning certain faculties.

In July, 1996 there is an association of chairs EDA and microelectronics – ME (last concerned faculty of electronic devices earlier), and also – chairs BME and TE.

From now on and till today at faculty of 4 chairs:

Microelectronics, electronic devices and appliance – MEEDA (the manager of department Prof. Gordienko J.E.);

Physical Foundation of Electronic Engineering – PFEE (prof. Zamkovoj A.S.);

Biomedical electronic devices and systems – BMEDS (prof. Byh A.I.);

Physical training (prof. Tanjanskij S.F.).

Chair MEEDA has the branches at NNC KhPTI NASU: in the Research complex “Accelerator” (since 1994) and at Institute of physics of a firm body, materials technology and technologies (since 1997), and also in the Research institute of technology of instrument making (since 1987). On branches students pass industrial practices and carry out degree projects. Employees of branches read to students of lecture on special disciplines and spend laboratory practical works with use of the industrial equipment. Besides, employees of chair and its branches conduct joint scientific work.

Chair PFEE branches work in IRE NASU (since 1989), in NYK «Institute of monocrystals» (1997), in scientific research institute of laser technologies (since 1999) and in holography scientific research institute (since 2000).

Chair BME has the branches in GNPO “Communard” (since 1991) and in Ukrainian scientific research institute prosthetics, designing of prosthetics and working capacity restoration (since 2001).

In 1998 last release of students-night-school of specialty EDA as the evening form of training has stopped existence has taken place. The correspondence course system has remained. On specialty EDA after a two-year-old break in 1998 reception of students of corresponding form of training is renewed. Since 2003 the correspondence form of training on specialty LOEE is opened.

On stationary branch the first experts with educational and qualifying level “bachelor” on specialties EDA,BME and BMDS were released in June, 1999 Almost all of them have continued training at faculty, and a year later the majority of them has received qualification of the engineer, and 14 graduates became masters.

The best students of EDA-95 became the first masters who have started to be released at faculty since 2000: Kohtarev S.V., Pidkaljuk V.I., Ponomareva T.M., Pugach O.V., Jakovlev D.R.; students of group BME-95: Barhush M., Zamula N.N., Kartashov A.A., Melnik V.А., Shushterian M. M and students of group BMDS-95: Alieva T.S., Belkina N.O., Roshka D.L., Fedorenko A.L.

The beginning of release of masters was preceded by state expert appraisal of conditions and quality of preparation of students – certification and high school accreditation for concrete specialties. As a result of the accreditation spent by the State inspection of educational institutions of Ukraine in March, 1998, the expert group has noted high level of preparation of graduates of faculty on specialties EDA, BED and BMDS, and also full conformity of all necessary indicators to requirements of qualifying characteristics of specialties. Inspection has taken out the recommendation – to publish manuals for high schools in the form of the books of problems which basis questions and the problems used for the control of knowledge of students in the course of certification should make. In 1999 three collections of problems for each of the above-stated specialties have been published by teachers of faculty.

In September, 1999 the faculty has widely celebrated for the first time the anniversary connected with the 35 anniversary from the date of the basis. Many graduates of last years have met within the precincts of native high school with each other, and also the teachers, with heads of faculty and university. All involved by a holiday were congratulated by the governor of the Kharkov area Dyomin O.A. – the graduate of faculty of 1971 the Most representative group at a meeting was made by heads of various level from enterprise “Communard” – the former graduates of faculty. Many employees have received awards and gifts. By an anniversary there was a first edition of the collection-directory «Faculty of electronic engineering KhTURE». The anniversary number of Ukrain scientific and technical magazine “Radio engineering” completely consisting of scientific publications of employees FEE (release 111/99) is let out. Since 1971 the permanent editor-in-chief of this collection is one of high school and faculty founders – prof. Tereshchenko A.I. By the way, in 2003 the university has started to publish one more magazine – «Applied electronics» which editorial board graduate FEE the professor Churjumov G.I. (heads all in high school 5 scientific and technical magazines) are published.

In September, 2000 the 70-year-old anniversary already celebrated university – ХТУРЭ.
