Ten years ago, on a memorable November 2013, students and young people became an unbreakable driving force for democratic change in our country. One of them was Yevhen Kotlyar, who first joined the Euromaidan in Kharkiv and then went to Kyiv, where he died in February 2014.
Therefore, on 21 November, our University began with laying flowers to the memorial plaque of Yevhen Kotliar, our graduate, the hero of the Heavenly Hundred, who was killed by a sniper’s bullet during the Revolution of Dignity.
Together with the staff of NURE and Acting Rector Igor Ruban, the event was attended by Mayor Ihor Terekhov, Head of the Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kharkiv Region Artem Astakhov, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kharkiv Region Oleksandr Kuts and Head of the Main Department of the National Police in Kharkiv Region Volodymyr Tymoshko.
Today, we commemorate Yevhen and the tragic events of autumn 2004, 2013 and February 2014 to remind ourselves once again who we are, what path we are following, and what we continue to fight for today.
We, Ukrainians, were born free and we must be worthy of our freedom. So let us unite today and in the future, remember our history, honour its Heroes and bring our Victory closer!
