Analysis of ways to improve academic reputation for improvement in world rankings and sustainable development

On 27 August, a regular seminar was held on the QS World University Rankings results and strategies for improving the university’s position. The key topic for discussion was the ‘Academic Reputation’ indicator, which carries the most weight in this prestigious ranking.

Larysa CHALA, Scientific Supervisor of the Benchmarking Department, spoke at the seminar, noting that it is in this indicator that NURE demonstrates the most significant decline and currently ranks last among the 10 Ukrainian universities represented in QS. One of the main reasons for this situation is the problem of providing poor-quality, invalid candidates as experts for the survey, which significantly reduces the number of valid votes in favour of the university.

Academic reputation is the university’s calling card on the international stage. It is formed over five years and directly affects our overall score. Our common task is to attract genuine world-class experts who can objectively assess our achievements.

In this regard, the seminar started actively working with university departments to create and fill a database of real experts with academic reputations.

It was emphasised that responsibility for the future is linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. Strengthening academic reputation is not only a matter of prestige, but also a key step in the context of Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education. International recognition confirms the university’s quality of educational services and helps attract talented students and teachers worldwide.

In addition, a steady improvement in reputation in the academic community directly contributes to Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. A strong, internationally recognised university becomes a powerful catalyst for developing an innovative economy, creating skilled personnel and promoting the scientific research necessary for stable economic development.

Conclusion: Working to improve our position in the QS World University Rankings, in particular by strengthening our academic reputation, is an integral part of NURE’s sustainable development strategy, which aims to create quality education, decent work, and promote innovation.
