In a magical atmosphere filled with anticipation of a battle of wits, NURE launched a chess tournament dedicated to its 95th anniversary. A clash of talents, logic and strategy – this is how future engineers, programmers and scientists decided to celebrate this milestone in the history of their alma mater.
The celebration began with a vibrant performance by a dance troupe, whose energy and grace symbolised progress, development and harmony – values that have defined NURE for almost a century.
On the tournament’s opening, the university’s rector, Ihor Ruban, addressed the participants with welcome and inspiration. “95 years is a time of wisdom, to take stock and look to the future. Today, you are not just playing chess. You are training your strategic thinking, learning to make decisions in conditions of uncertainty and developing patience – qualities necessary for your future. I wish everyone not only victory, but also new acquaintances, exchange of experience and the pleasure that comes from a clean and honest battle of wits,” emphasised Igor Ruban. The participants were greeted by the head of the Department of Physical Education, Natalia Didyuk, the head of the Trade Union Committee, Andriy Frolov, and the head of the Student Senate, Vladislav Kashcheev.
This tournament was a sporting event and an example of a responsible approach to the Sustainable Development Goals. All prizes for the winners, provided by the university’s trade union committee, were selected based on the principles of ethics and practicality. Instead of disposable souvenirs, they were high-quality, valuable and durable items that motivate further development.
The tournament promoted informal education and the development of cognitive abilities, logic, and competencies for solving complex modern problems. The event brought together students from different faculties and courses, promoting social integration and creating an environment of mutual respect and friendly competition.
The intense competition lasted all day. The quiet ticking of the chess clock could be heard as real battles unfolded on the boards. The participants demonstrated impressive concentration, deep calculation and willpower.
After fierce battles, the winners were determined and awarded commemorative prizes from the trade union committee of NURE.
The winners were:
Among the boys: 1st place – Ivan Tokarna,
2nd place – Maxim Pivovarov,
3rd place – Vladislav Perepust.
Among the girls:
1st place – Daria Chebotareva,
2nd place – Margarita Sytnik,
3rd place – Milena Liganenko.
But the main prize for everyone was the excitement, new acquaintances and a sea of impressions.
The day turned out to be truly bright, intellectual and unifying. The tournament proved once again that tradition, intelligence and innovation go hand in hand at NURE, forming high-class specialists and responsible citizens capable of building a sustainable future.
