It was named after BL Kashcheyev (1920-2004), the well-known researcher of meteor by the radio method, under the direction of which for the first time in Ukraine were recorded radio meteors (1954), was based the meteor radar research with their development in astronomical direction to the level of world significance, in particular, a meteor automated radar system was created and unique observational astronomical data of a large volume were obtained.
The International Astronomical Union assigned the names of Kashcheyev, KhTURE, and Voloshchuk for three small planets.
LAB was created in 2007 with the purpose of further development of scientific research at the university in the field of radio astronomy (with an emphasis on meteor radar research), a combination of the educational process with scientific research, engaging students in research, further development of fundamental and applied sciences, study and observation of meteors in the Earth’s atmosphere and meteoroids in the Solar system (planetary systems) by radio engineering and other means, solving modern problems of astronomy, radio astronomy, astroinformatics with the help of radio engineering and information technology.
In the field of international cooperation (astronomy is the most international science), the task is to exchange experience and cooperate with foreign countries through participation in international projects, work and internships in foreign research organizations etc. and by participating in the work of scientific meetings with the purpose of obtaining, distributing and analyzing information and improving the level of research and development, professional level of scientific and teaching staff of university, graduate students and students.
