Educational Program Microprocessor Systems Engineering

Duration of study 1 year 9 months.
Graduate department – “Microprocessor technologies and systems”
The educational and scientific program “Microprocessor systems engineering” will provide a start to your journey into the world of high technology! This is a new program that allows you to gain modern knowledge in the development of electronic devices on microcontrollers, programmable integrated circuits (FPGAs), single-board PCs and other hardware platforms, as well as in creating software for these hardware platforms. Global trends in the development of electronics show that the future lies in robotics and artificial intelligence built into smart electronic devices, and modern electronics are becoming increasingly modular, with each module having its own microprocessor or microcontroller and the efficiency of the device or system largely depends on the functions of the embedded software. That is why the ability to develop electronic devices and systems using computing cores and develop software for them is an integral part of the skills of a modern engineer in the field of G5 electronics.
The educational program focuses on the development of electronic devices and their software for the world’s most popular microcontrollers STM32, FPGA Artix7 from the world’s leading company Xilinx, Raspberry PI single-board PCs, ESP32 wireless modules. When studying the programming of these hardware platforms, students use the programming languages C++, VHDL, HTML, CSS, Java Script, Python. Students also learn to use existing neural network architectures, such as YOLO, DETR, in the software of electronic devices, and to develop their own neural networks for embedding based on the well-known frameworks Tensorflow, PyTorch.

The following academic disciplines are studied within the educational and scientific program:

  • “Design of complex systems”;
  •  “Integration of advanced technologies”;
  •  “Modern multimedia technologies”;
  • “Methods of digital image processing for technical diagnostics”;
  • “Machine Learning Technologies in Microelectronic Systems”;
  • “Microprocessor Devices and Systems”;
  • “Research and Design of FPGA Devices”;
  • “Programming Languages for Scientific Research”;
  • “High-Level Synthesis of Digital Embedded Systems”;
  • “Development of Embedded Systems with Radio Interface”;
  • “Using Cloud Technologies in Embedded Systems”;
  • “Front-end Development for Microprocessor Systems”;
  • “Software and Hardware of Computer Vision”;
  • “Computer Processing of Acoustic Signals”;
  • “Interfaces of Microprocessor Systems”;
  • “Programming of Microprocessor Devices of the “Smart Home”.

As a result of studying the listed disciplines, students gain skills in controlling moving objects, developing systems such as a “smart home” with a built-in web server or interface in the form of smartphone applications, using cloud servers for remote monitoring of the state of electronic devices and their management, recognizing streaming video from video cameras on hardware platforms, implementing high-speed hardware computing.
The knowledge obtained allows them to find their place in the labor market and develop in the future almost the entire spectrum of modern electronics: consumer electronic devices, industrial electricity, robotics, multimedia electronic devices, communication equipment. The graduate department closely cooperates with the Kharkov IT cluster and many companies developing electronic devices and systems, where our students always find employment opportunities (Global Logic, Sigma Software, NPO “Vertical”, etc.) and have a high level of wages.
