Educational Program Specialized Computer Systems

The educational and professional program “Specialized Computer Systems (SCS)” under the F7 specialization in Computer Engineering for the second level of master’s degree studies is offered by the Department of Computer Hardware Design Automation (APOT) of the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Information Technologies. The duration of study is 1 year and 4 months.

The SCS educational program is the true engineering of the future and your confident start in the global IT industry.

The program’s core focuses on three main areas that ensure the integration of knowledge for designing information processing and control systems: cyber-physical systems, where computational resources are integrated into physical processes; embedded systems, which involve the development of both hardware and software; and FPGA-based systems.

The program’s knowledge architecture is based on three powerful modules. The first is “Advanced Computing,” which includes quantum computing, corporate networks, and microelectromechanical systems. The second is “Intelligent Systems,” which covers artificial intelligence, applied machine learning, and AI agent systems. The third pillar is “Systems Engineering & Quality,” dedicated to design theory, improving software quality, as well as system reliability and testability.

The matrix of future professions includes positions such as system architect for developing complex hardware solutions, developer of specialized computer systems and software, computer applications engineer for supporting IT solutions, software and AI engineer, hardware engineer, as well as researcher or lecturer for those seeking to advance the academic field.

Comparison of competency aspects. Specialization F7 “Computer Engineering” (educational program “Specialized Computer Systems”) is distinguished by its emphasis on hardware, system design, and the integration of artificial intelligence with hardware systems, specifically—50% hardware, 30% software, 20% mathematics, in contrast to software-oriented IT majors. The comparison of competencies is based on Ukrainian higher education standards and the standard educational programs of KNURE.

The innovative curriculum includes next-generation courses. For example: “Applied Machine Learning” focuses on applying the latest ML algorithms for big data analysis with an emphasis on maximum practicality—moving directly from theory to real-world engineering problems. The course “Artificial Intelligence Agent Systems in SCU Diagnostics” covers failure prediction and self-healing systems, enabling intelligent agents to independently predict failures and perform corrective actions without operator intervention. The course “Reliability and Testability of Computer Systems,” focused on embedded diagnostics and the design of fault-tolerant architectures, combining reliability theory with modern practices such as Test-Driven Development, Chaos Engineering, and Fault Injection. The course on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) was developed within the framework of TEMPUS MastMst (530785). The course on intelligent computing is based on the author’s innovative theory of vector-logical computing, which is featured in a monograph published by the world-renowned scientific publisher Springer in 2026. Some courses are open and globally accessible on the department’s and its instructors’ YouTube channel.

Graduates of the “SKS” program are an elite cohort of next-generation engineers. Studying in our master’s program is not only about acquiring cutting-edge knowledge but also joining a powerful professional network. Your story of innovation begins right here.
