On 29 August, we honour the memory of the defenders of Ukraine who lost their lives in the struggle for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.
The sunflower has become the symbol of this day. It was among Ukraine’s sunflower fields in August 2014 that many of our defenders gave their lives while standing for Ukraine until the very end.
Today is a day of silence, remembrance and gratitude. We remember those who have fallen defending Ukraine since 2014. Those who stood up to protect the country in 2022. Those who gave the most precious thing they had — their lives — so that Ukraine could endure and so that we could have the year 2026.
We bow our heads in memory of every Hero.
With particular sorrow and gratitude, we remember the students, graduates and staff members of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics who lost their lives defending Ukraine. They will forever remain part of our University community, our history and our memory.
