16.01.2025

The training was held on 14 January and dedicated to acquiring practical skills and tools to support people with disabilities on their way to receiving humanitarian aid.
The training was filled with various practical exercises and scenarios for ensuring the accessibility of services and information, including for visually impaired and blind citizens. The participants were introduced to examples of universal design, which provides accessibility and convenience to the environment, services, and information for anyone, regardless of age, gender, physical characteristics, and other factors.

The training was implemented with the support of the Kharkiv Association of Blind Lawyers and the International Charitable Organisation INGO Humanity & Inclusion.

During the training, the following issues were discussed:

  • What is inclusive humanitarian action;
  • Principles of equality, accessibility and respect for human rights;
  • The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities;
  • Needs of persons with disabilities and barriers to access to humanitarian assistance, social and administrative facilities, medical institutions, etc;
  • Ensuring the accessibility of information and services, including for people with visual impairments;
  • Universal design, examples of use.

Inclusive humanitarian action is an approach that focuses on the needs of every person, including the most vulnerable, in times of crisis, difficult life circumstances and emergencies.

Applying an inclusive approach increases the effectiveness of humanitarian work, helps avoid discrimination, and creates conditions for everyone to be involved in forming and developing a diverse and tolerant society.
