As a continuation of the long-term cooperation between Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics and the Ukrainian Research Institute of Prosthetics, Prosthetic Engineering and Rehabilitation in the field of medical and technical problems of rehabilitation and social adaptation of persons with disabilities, the following textbooks were published: “Pathologies of the musculoskeletal system” by the author’s team consisting of A.D. Saleyeva, O.G. Avrunina, M.V. Zaitseva, I.V. Kabanenko, V.M. Yutkin, R.O. Boboshko, T.O. Trofymenko, I.S. Dondoreva, P.O. Baev, O.M. Lytvynenko, S.V. Korneev, A.Y. Chugaiev, T.V. Nosova; “Fundamentals of complex rehabilitation of patients with pathologies of the musculoskeletal system” by the author team of A.D. Saleeva, Avrunina O.G., Chernysheva I.M., Kabanenko I.V., Datsok O.M., Trofymenko T.O., Dondoreva I.S., Miroshnikova Z.V., Kovaleva S.V.
The textbook “Pathology of the Musculoskeletal System” deals with the issues of pathology of the musculoskeletal system, both congenital and acquired, its etiology, pathogenesis, clinical course of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, and highlights the principles of diagnosis and treatment.
The textbook “Fundamentals of Comprehensive Rehabilitation of Patients with Musculoskeletal Disorders” presents the legal basis and medical and social aspects of rehabilitation of patients with musculoskeletal disorders, general approaches and methods of physical rehabilitation of patients with musculoskeletal disorders. Assistive technologies in the rehabilitation of patients with musculoskeletal pathology are considered.
The textbooks are recommended for students majoring in Biomedical Engineering under the Orthopedic Technology and Engineering study programme, and may also be useful for specialists in prosthetics and orthotics of the musculoskeletal system. The textbooks were recommended for publication by the decision of the Academic Council of the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (Protocol No. 1/17 of 31.01.2022). We hope that the textbooks will also be useful to all specialists in this field.
The educational programme “Orthopaedic Technology and Engineering” for master’s degree is the result of the project “Establishment of Prosthetic and Orthotic Education in Ukraine”, which was launched by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine and the Human Study School of Rehabilitation Sciences, within which the Department of Biomedical Engineering trained teachers and trainers in prosthetics and orthotics according to modern international ISPO category II standards. A promising project that has already begun to be implemented is the development of an educational programme for the training of biomedical engineers in the field of orthopaedic technologies according to ISPO Category III standards.
We congratulate the authors who continue to work hard during the period of martial law in this, unfortunately, very necessary field of biomedical engineering in the context of full-scale Russian aggression, and express our gratitude to the staff of the editorial and publishing department of our university, who are trying to ensure the publication of new and relevant educational and methodological literature!
