From March 6 to 11, the international title chess tournament “Konsalt Chess Master” (IM-group) was held in Cherkasy, in which a student of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics Maria Berdnik took part. According to the results of the competition, the athlete, gaining 5.5 points out of 9, showed the best result among women, fulfilled the last standard of women’s international master and in the end took 4th place. The tournament was held with the participation of 10 participants from 5 chess federations of the world: France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Ukraine. Among the players were both members of national teams, as well as winners of the Olympic competitions, as well as champions of Ukraine of different years. In total, 3 international grandmasters (men), 1 women’s international grandmaster, 3 FIDE masters (men) and 1 women’s FIDE master took part in the tournament. Competitions were held according to the standard rules of classical chess.
Maria Berdnyk is:
– nine-time champion of Ukraine in the classic game in different age categories and fifteen-time among all types (classic, fast, lightning);
– bronze medalist of the World Rapid Chess Championship among girls under 16;
– Olympic vice-champion of the world (among juniors under 16) on the fifth board as a member of the national team of Ukraine.
– World champion among schoolchildren in the Ukrainian national team.
– winner of the World Championship among girls under 20 (the most prestigious youth competition);
– the only girl who has the title of male master of FIDE in Ukraine;
– the best junior of Ukraine under 20;
– reserve of the women’s national Olympic team of Ukraine.
She graduated from school with a gold medal, was awarded the prize “Best Student of 2019” and “Young Man of 2018” in the category – “athletes”.
