As part of the Ukraine Without Barriers initiative, which aims to create equal opportunities for all Ukrainians, a group of scientists from the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics obtained the copyright to the device “Navigation System for Blind People” – Pat. 148410 Ukraine, IPC A 61 F 9/08 G 08 G 1/00. Navigation system for blind people / VV Semenets, OG Avrunin and others. – № u 202101448; declared 22.03.2021; publ. 04.08.2021, Bull. № 31. – 5 pp. https://openarchive.nure.ua/bitstream/document/17465/1/148410.pdf
The navigation system for the blind contains a transceiver, which is connected to the traffic light controller. The transceiver is a Wi-Fi transmitter that is connected wirelessly to a smartphone from a blind user who has the appropriate software installed. vision to ensure their orientation in space.
The system is implemented as follows. When a person falls within range of a Wi-Fi transceiver, which transmits the necessary information to a smartphone that is in a blind person, processes it and sends a signal (voice message or signals) to a blind person.
The parcel of geopositioning plays the role of “directionality” of a traffic light. The direction of a person’s movement is calculated at certain intervals using the smartphone’s navigation tools (including GPS).According to the required timing of this area of the roadway, the Wi-Fi transmitter transmits the necessary information, which gives the blind pedestrian an idea of in which sector of the intersection and at which intersection he is, as well as which street he can at the moment it is safe to cross, and informs the pedestrian who has crossed the carriageway of the street in which direction to move further. Also, the software may provide a route and periodically the system will “report discrepancies with the route”. Since the smartphone can transmit information to the control system (controller), it is possible to “delay” the switching of traffic lights for a while the man has not yet crossed the roadway.
