Since 2016, by the decision of the UN, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated on February 11.
According to the UN General Assembly resolution “Science, Technology and Innovation for Development”, equal access of women and girls of all ages to the achievements and development of science, technology and innovation is the key to gender equality in this area.
Ukraine belongs to countries with a high level of women’s participation in research and development. According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, 45% of scientists in Ukraine are women. Our country ranks 12th in the number of women scientists among 41 countries of the world.
In order to show the efforts aimed at achieving SDG 5 – Gender Equality, NURE has introduced monitoring of gender balance, according to which the share of women among scientific and pedagogical workers is 56%. Among the 11 best scientists of NURE, who have a Hirsch index ≥ 10 according to Scopus, 6 are women:
