On 26.12.2019, a regular meeting of the permanent seminar on the implementation of tasks for achieving sustainable development goals took place.
The theme of the seminar: “Results of the University’s activities to achieve the goals of sustainable development in 2019“.
Having heard and discussed the report of the Rector Professor V. V. Semenets, the participants determined that none of the goals of sustainable development cannot be achieved in society without the participation of institutions of higher education and scientific communities. Through research universities play a unique role in the creation of new knowledge and innovations to solve global problems of society.
By teaching and education universities develop a new generation of leaders and skilled professionals to stimulate socio-economic development.
Three global associations: Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Association of Universities of the Francophonie (AUF), International Association of Universities (IAU), have complementary membership and together represent more than 2,000 higher educational institutions of all continents, and thanks to the world database of higher education of the MASSES (WHED.net) they can reach more than 20,000 institutions. This versatile membership applies to institutions of higher education, research institutes and associations around the world.
In the frames of new strategy of development of the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, aimed at strengthening the internationalization and improvement of the employability of graduates NURE has been officially accepted to the University Agency of La Francophonie (AUF). NURE is now presented in the world database of higher education and received a unique identification number.
The new partnership will open up opportunities to improve educational programs, to create additional opportunities for mobility projects, double degrees, and to contribute to the realization of the scientific potential. Development strategy of the UAF until 2021 envisages provision of support and maintenance of the WMD in three areas: quality of education, science and management; graduate employment; involvement in global development companies. https://www.iau-aiu.net/IMG/
NURE supports the joint statement of the three International associations regarding important contribution of higher education in the achievements of the CSR on the Political high-level forum of the UN 2019 in New York. Together Association will advocate for the role of higher education for sustainable development on a global scale and to develop joint activities, projects and initiatives to address the issues of higher education and, in particular, to use the contribution of higher education in the sdgs. https://www.iau-aiu.net/IAU-
Through community participation, universities work with a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies, the private sector, and the civil society – for local, national, and global influence.
Higher education directly affects the development of each country. Therefore, sustainable development cannot be achieved without partnerships involving universities.
To ensure the achievement of the 4th goal (ensuring equitable quality education and promote learning throughout life), consider the following:
- higher education is an important component of a strong and sustainable system of education;
- universities strengthen educational policies and practices at all levels, teaching teachers, and through educational research;
- access to quality higher education continues to be a problem for persons with special educational problems, people with low incomes, persons in the territories which are in conflict areas;
- higher education develops critical thinking and skills to interested citizens.
Therefore, for the University for the coming period and for the future the following important tasks will remain:
- measures to ensure equal access to quality education for all;
- the adoption of policies and practices that maximize the contribution of teaching, research and the community for the development of society;
- raising awareness of teachers and students relative to the achievement of sustainable development;
- strengthening partnerships with other universities, scientific and public organizations to achieve sustainable development goals.
