Academic work

The Department trains Bachelors, Specialists and Masters in “Optoengineering” (OE) and “Laser and Optoelectronic Engineering” (LOEE). After graduating from the PFEE Department a Bachelor is awarded the qualification of a Bachelor of Electronics, Specialists and Masters are awarded the qualification of electronic engineer and researcher (electronics, telecommunication) respectively. The duration of Bachelor training is 3 years and 10 months, Master and Specialist training lasts 1 year.

Science and international cooperation

Research is done in the following scientific areas:

  • Laser Modulation Spectroscopy. Fundamental and applied issues of registration methods of explosive gases in the air and water.
  • Femtosecond lasers. Practical use in nanotechnologies and optical communication.
  • Semiconductor and chip-lasers for nanotechnologies. Physical basis of frequency characteristics.
  • Semiconductor pumped solid state and chip-lasers. Open resonators of a complex form.
  • LED matrix. Physical basis of application in lighting engineering.
  • Development of measuring systems and their metrological assurance.
  • Highly efficient light sources based on microwave technology.

These directions are realized through state-funded graduation theses № 230-2 and 248-2, agreements on scientific and technical cooperation, international internships for teachers, post-graduate students and students.

  1. Agreement with the Institute of Physics of NASU on “Development and equipping a femtosecond laser with optical electronic sites to stabilize radiation frequency”. Supervisor: Yuri P. Machekhin, Dr. Sc. (Technology), Professor, Head of the PFEE Department. Completion period: 01.01.10 – 25.12.12.
  2. Agreement № 11-28 to perform research work between Feodosia State Optical Plant and Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (KhNURE) on “Developing principles of modernization of laser emitter BASE CAMP 3.379.015 to generate impulses in a safe for eyes wavelength range (1.52-1.6 μm)”. State registration №0111U009457. Supervisor: Yuri P. Machekhin, Dr. Sc. (Technology), Professor, Head of the PFEE Department. Completion period: 19.07.11 – 02.02.12. The total sum is 60 thousand hrns.

The Department signed contracts with enterprises of Ukraine, NASU academic units and other academies of sciences and foreign partners, got international scientific projects and individual research grants:

  1. Contract № 1 “On creative, scientific and academic cooperation” between KhNURE and “Tochpribor”, Kharkiv, Ukraine. Supervisor: Yuri P. Machekhin, Dr. Sc. (Technology), Professor, Head of the PFEE Department. Completion period: 04.03.2004 – open-ended.
  2. Contract № 71 on scientific and technical cooperation between the IRE and KhNURE within the research performed on the scientific site “Criomagnetic radiospectroscopy complex of a millimeter wavelength range”, which has the status of a national property of Ukraine. Supervisor: Yuri P. Machekhin, Dr. Sc. (Technology), Professor, Head of the PFEE Department. Completion period: 2007 – open-ended.
  3. Contract № 76 on scientific and technical cooperation between the IRE and KhNURE concerning scientific, educational and creative activities of partners within 3377 STCU project “New laser system for measuring absolute distances”. Supervisor: Yuri P. Machekhin, Dr. Sc. (Technology), Professor, Head of the PFEE Department. Completion period: 30.04.2007 – open-ended.
  4. Contract on scientific and technical cooperation between the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine and Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (KhNURE) within the INTAS project “Development of an atom clock based on CPT resonances excited by a frequency optical comb”. Supervisor: Yuri P. Machekhin, Dr. Sc. (Technology), Professor, Head of the PFEE Department. Completion period: 07.04.2007 – open-ended.
  5. Contract on scientific and technical cooperation with Rovira i Virgili University (Spain). Supervisor: Yuri P. Machekhin, Dr. Sc. (Technology), Professor, Head of the PFEE Department. Completion period: 01.01.2010 – open-ended.
