Education and Career

In 1941 graduated from the Leningrad State University with specialty: physicist (equivalent of Master degree in physics).

In 1944 graduated the  M.S.Budenniy Military Academy of Telecommunications, with specialty: Engineer-electrician.

Commander of radar units during the Second World War.


Educational activity

1946–2005 – Pedagogical work in radiophysics, electromagnetics (antennas and propagation) and radar.

1946–1948 – Sevastopol Anti-aircraft artillery school, Zhitomir, Ukraine, Teacher  in radar.

1951–1980 – the L.A.Govorov Artillery Radio Technical Academy of Air Defense, Kharkiv, Ukraine, teacher, senior teacher, head of the Chair of Antennas and Propagation.

1980–2005 – Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, Kharkiv, Ukraine, Professor, Chief researcher, Professor-consultant; Head of  Chair of Technical Electromagnetics and Antennas, Professor.

19522005 – Supervisor of 20 theses for DrSci degree and 50 theses for candidate of sciences degree.


Researcher activity

1951–2018 – Scientific&Research work in radiophysics and electromagnetics (antennas and propagation), namely:

  • Founder of the statistical antenna theory;

    Development in the field of

  • Long-distance tropospheric propagation;
  • Antennas with nonlinear elements;
  • Phased antenna array diagnostics.

International activity / participation in international projects

1992–2003 – Invited lecturer in 17 countries around the world, including Japan, Poland, the USA, Germany, Netherlands, China, etc.


Social activities

1993 – Founder and President of Ukrainian National Antenna Association.

1995 – Initiator and Leader of biennial International Conferences on Antenna Theory and Technique (ICATT).

2002 – Initiator of biennial international conferences on Ultrawideband and Utrashort Impulse Signals (UWBUSIS).

19952000 – One of initiators and Chair of East-Ukrainian Joint Chapter of Ukrainian Section IEEE.

2000 – Initiator of Kharkiv Joint Chapter of Ukrainian Section IEEE.


State Awards

1983  Laureate of A.S.Popov Prize of the Academy of Sciences USSR  1988 Diploma of Higher Education State Committee USSR for the best scientific work.

1991 – Honorary Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine.

1994 – Soros Professor.

1998 – Fellow IEEE.

20002017 – Honorary Professor/Doctor of 4/1 higher schools of Ukraine and Russia.

2008 – Life Fellow IEEE.

2014 – EuMA Outstanding Career Award.

2015 – IEEE, AESS Pioneer Award.

2016 – Honorary citizen of Kharkiv.

1951-2016 – 5 ordes and 19 medals.
